Ichthus

Ichthus Christian Fellowship began in 1974 under the leadership of Roger Forster. We began with the mandate from God to evangelise London and the nations by planting churches of Christ-exalting, bible loving believers committed to the Lord Jesus, to His mission and to one another.

By 1982 we had grown from 14 people to around 400 and two new congregations were being planted. Since then congregations have been established right across London, Essex and Kent, and a further 130 other churches in the UK and Europe are linked with us. We also have a thriving overseas missions movement with missionaries working in many nations, with a special focus on the least evangelised nations of the world.

Martina News from June 2009

Plans for Martina to visit CCW in July are currently in progress, more definite news as soon as we have it. She has endured a cold and wet winter in Ankara (worse than England!) and has seen a lot of changes in the fellowship over there with people leaving but from that a new and real sense of belonging and commitment has emerged. She describes some wonderful times of worship with  “ angels breaking out in dance”.  She attends and often leads services on Tuesday afternoons and describes these as a mixture of really hard work on some days but on others there is a real sense of God’s presence and refreshing of faith.  A new prayer initiative was launched in March to try to soak the whole country in prayer with each day given to a different city or region.  Leading up to Pentecost Sunday 10  days of prayer were undertaken, with all the churches in Ankara joining in a global day of prayer on that Sunday.
Her counselling work is busy and challenging but rewarding and has brought  a new sense of authority and a real sense of Christ’s glory through his own suffering and how important that is when relating to the broken hearted. A new prayer ministry group has emerged due to people leaving the fellowship and Martina has been working with other women in developing this.
She has found the last few months tiring and has often felt worn out as the challenge of counselling people in combination with changes in the church has proved unsettling. She feels that the Lord is teaching her not to burden herself with everyone else’s problems and would value prayer in working this through.
The children’s work has been frustrating and a planned seminar for training children’s workers in Istanbul has been cancelled twice then ultimately abandoned.  There is still a big need for this type of training in Ankara and other parts of Eastern Turkey. Summer camps in Cappadocia are planned with Martina being responsible for crafts with the theme of Daniel with lions; fire and dreams being drawn on cardboard and other objects (including fruits and vegetables!). The camp for 7-10 year olds is this week and 11-14 year olds next week.
She is going to be joined by Diana from England some time this month and will be sharing her flat for the first time in quite a while. A new challenge to deal with.
