Unto us a Son is given

Christ is the Son of promise that Isaiah prophesied would bring salvation.
Isaiah reveals the great names of Christ the Saviour.
Those powerful names reveal Christ’s glorious divine nature.
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NKJV

Mighty God

Jesus is our mighty God. Full of divine power & wisdom.
Fully man & fully God. Fully human & fully divine.
God in Christ reconciling this world to himself (2 Corinthians 5:19).
Mighty God of creation & mighty God of redemption.
The God of miracles & mystery.

We must learn to live with mystery (Isaiah 55:9) if we want to see miracles.
Miracles are all around us if we have the eyes of faith to see.
Miracles in marvellous ways & miracles in the mundanity of life.
Big miracles & small miracles. It all depends on our outlook & perspective.

What a mighty God – Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
Mighty to save, deliver, heal & restore wholeness. Shalom, Shalom, Shalom.
Immanuel ‘God with us’ in Christ in such amazing ways.
SO GOOD!
What a wondrous gift. The gift that keeps on giving.

For Reflection

  • What miracles have I experienced in my life? Share a testimony.
  • How well do I handle the mystery of God?
  • Mediate upon Jesus our Mighty God.

A song related to the theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the great gift of Christ,
The Son who is our Mighty God & glorious Saviour.
Through the presence & power of the indwelling Spirit,
Help me to accept the mysteries I cannot fathom,
And to see Your miraculous work all around me.
Give me eyes to see, ears to hear & a heart to discern,
In the mighty name of Jesus.
Amen.
