The Just Shall Live by Faith

Deep down we all long to live true & just (right) lives.
The consistent message of the Bible is that in & of ourselves we are powerless to do so.
Justification by faith ‘In Christ’ alone is at the heart of Scriptures.
The ‘just’ can live by faith ‘In Christ’ alone.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17 NKJV

The apostle Paul was zealous for God (Acts 22:3; Galatians 1:14).
Zealous as a Pharisee & even more zealous after his conversion to Christ.
Post salvation Paul had zeal with knowledge – personal knowledge of God through intimate relationship.
It was the spark & energy for Paul’s drive & determination to spread the gospel of Christ far & wide.
God used Paul powerfully & we benefit greatly from his legacy even today.

Paul had great confidence in the gospel & was never ashamed to be associated with Christ or it.
He knew it was the power of God unto salvation for ALL humanity – Jew & Gentile.
Through Christ the righteousness of God was revealed.
The righteous one – Christ – sacrificing Himself on behalf of the unrighteous (all humanity – Romans 3:23).
That righteousness of God is revealed & received through faith.
Faith ‘In Christ’ alone as Saviour & Lord. Saving faith a grace gift from God (Ephesians 2:8).
Justified by Christ the sinless righteous Saviour (Romans 3:24).

That faith goes from faith to faith – he who endures to the end shall be saved (Matthew 10:22, 24:13).
Saving faith is just the starting point. We work out our salvation with godly fear & trembling (Philippians 2:12).
We are to grow in grace & faith as we develop deeper relationship & intimacy with Father, Son & Spirit.
We have been gifted the faith to live (new birth into eternal life) & we must embrace the faith to grow into maturity.
Going together & growing together as disciples of Christ.
Go to share the gospel & grow in faith for His glory.

For Reflection

In what ways am I zealous for God & the gospel?
Do I have confidence in the gospel & do i willingly share it?
Meditate on the just living by faith.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for Your great love & grace,
Revealed in Christ our glorious Saviour.
The righteous one who died for each of us unrighteous ones.
Thank you for the gift of saving faith.
Holy Spirit help & strengthen us to grow & mature in our faith.
Give us passion & a zeal to share the gospel,
Alongside the courage & boldness to do so.
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
