His Love Endures Forever

God’s love endures & it endures forever. It never fades, falters or fails (1 Corinthians 13:7, 8 & 13).
It can be experienced now & it stands the test of time enduring forever.
It is a steadfast, faithful, enduring love that is ever available & fully accessible to the child of God.
Psalm 136 gives us an insight into this amazing Love of God.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords.
His faithful love endures forever. Psalm 136:1-3 NLT

This is the last of the Great Hallel psalms & it is associated with the feast of Passover.
Hallel psalms are praise psalms & were sung by Jewish pilgrims making their way up to the Great Festivals at the Jerusalem Temple.
We often think about a scripture sandwich where a passage begins & ends with the same refrain.
This is more like a layered cake!!! 26 times we read & hear the great refrain His faithful live endures forever.
.Just in case you might forget it it is repeated those 26 times!! The psalmist is ensuring we don’t. SELAH
For those of us who might struggle with repetition – here it is again in scripture.

The praise here is for the God of Heaven, the God (King) of gods & Lord of lords.
God above, the God of Israel, is being exalted above all else.
He is being praised for His wisdom, wondrous works & mighty power (miracles).
The great love He has endlessly revealed to Israel is being celebrated.
His goodness, grace & mercy to the people of God is being declared. SELAH

The Psalm elevates the Lord over everything & anyone else.
He is praised & celebrated as Creator, Redeemer, Provider & Protector.
We will think on each of these in turn over the coming days.
We do well to follow the lead of Israel in exalting the Lord & celebrating His great love.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Hallelujah!!

For Reflection

  • How readily & freely does praise & worship flow from my lips?
  • In often do I use repetition, repeated refrains, or simple mantras in my praise & worship of the Lord?
  • Meditate upon the amazing, unfailing, enduring & faithful love of God.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the enduring nature of Your mighty love,
That You are a faithful God who is steadfast in love.
Jesus thank you that the love of God is revealed in all its fulness in You,
That through Your great sacrifice I have free access to the unfailing, enduring love of God.
Holy Spirit help & strengthen me to keep exalting the Lord,
Ever praising his name through my life & my lips.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Amen
