The power of Testimony

The Gospel of Jesus is the most powerful message in the world.
It carries power to change & transform lives.
We have the great privilege of passing that message on.
Equipped & empowered by the Spirit we are to be witnesses of & for Christ (Acts 1:8).
One of the ways we witness is by sharing our testimony.

Then he said, ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth. For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’ Acts 22:14-16

For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:20

Every testimony is powerful – whether it is very ordinary or incredibly extraordinary.
Nobody can deny the story & account of how Jesus has changed your life.
Testimonies show how things can be different – they offer hope & build faith.
The apostle Paul repeatedly shared his testimony as he went about his missionary work.
Like those before him Paul could not be kept from speaking about what he had seen, heard & experienced (Acts 4:20).
Inspired & empowered by the Spirit may we do the same.

Paul provides us with a great example of how to share our testimony (Acts 21 & 22).
In his defence against zealous Mosaic Jews seeking to have him executed Paul repeatedly shares what Jesus has done for him.
Despite many hardships & almost constant opposition Paul was always ready & always willing to tell his story & share his testimony.
His testimony consisted of 3 elements:
What he was like before he met Jesus
What happened to him when he encountered Christ
The difference Jesus had made in his life
This is a powerful model & framework for us to follow.
We will dig into it each element a little more over the coming days.

The key thing for us is to never underestimate the potential & power of our own testimony.
As we are faithful to testify of Christ the Spirit will use it for God’s glory.
As Jesus is lifted high through testimonies He will draw people unto Himself (John 3:13-15).
Be bold, be a faithful witness, share your testimony today.
May we be those who cannot stop speaking about what we have encountered & experienced in Christ.

For Reflection

  • Am I confident & sure about my own personal testimony?
  • Do I have a memorable & well prepared personal story that is the foundation of my testimony?
  • Meditate upon the power of testimony.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for Your great love for me,
Thank you for saving me through the death & resurrection of Christ.
Jesus thank you for the difference You have made in my life.
Holy Spirit strengthen me & embolden me to be a witness for Jesus,
So that more people might come to know the Saviour.
This I ask in, & through, Your mighty Name.
