Honouring God with our Bodies

Temples are made for honour & worship to spring forth & flow from.
Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). We are to use them to bless & honour the Lord.
We have been exploring 4 helpful insights on how to do this from Psalm 141.

  1. Lift your hands verse 2
  2. Guard your mouth & lips verse 3
  3. Fix your eyes verse 8
  4. Watch & guard your heart verse 4

Today we will explore how we fix our eyes to honour the Lord.

But my eyes are upon You, O God the Lord;
In You I take refuge;
Do not leave my soul destitute. Psalm 141:8

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

We are those who set & fix our eyes upon the Lord.
He is our help & strength, our secure refuge, & we look to Him above & beyond all else (Psalm 121:1-2).
We look to Jesus, our Lord & saviour, as our role model & example.
He is the author & perfector of our faith & we seek to follow in His footsteps.
As we do so we will bring honour & blessing unto the Lord.

Our eyes have a massive impact upon our lives. They are a doorway & entry point to our souls & spirits.
Who we look to & what we look at will have a massive impact & a great influence upon us.
Job made a covenant with His eyes (Job 31:1). He was careful about what he allowed himself to look at & also think about.
He disciplined himself (via his eyes) to keep himself pure – pure in thought & pure in deed.
Jesus also refers to how important our eyes & sight (physical & spiritual) are (Matthew 5:29 & 6:22-23).
There may be things we periodically have to pluck out of our eyes to enable us to keep looking unto & fixing our gaze upon the Lord.

We truly honour the Lord when we first & foremost look to the Lord in ALL things.
Looking unto the Lord above & beyond all people & all things. Rightly putting Jesus in first place – front & centre of our lives.
Lifting our heads & hearts to set our gaze upon the Lord as we seek His presence & perspective.
This will require discipline, dedication, diligence & attention to detail.
The repeated effort it requires carries great reward. Persevere to win the prize!!
Lift up your eyes to the Lord & set your gaze upon Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!!

For Refelection

  • Am I daily disciplined in the things I will allow myself to look at?
  • In what ways am I setting my gaze upon Jesus?
  • Meditate upon what it means to look unto & fox our eyes upon the Lord.

2 Songs related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You have given me physical & spiritual sight,
Help me to set & settle my gaze upon You.
Jesus thank you that You are the author & perfector of my faith,
Keep me following closely in Your footsteps.
Holy Spirit help me to be disciplined with my eyes & my mind,
Keep me lifting my head & heart unto the Lord.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
