The Voice of the Lord
The Lord our God speaks to His people & His voice has many dimensions.
Sometimes that voice is powerful & spectacular & at other times it is simple & almost silent.
Yesterday we saw the still small, delicately whispering, voice of God bringing reassurance, comfort, life & purpose.
Today we will again look at the Lord’s mighty thunder like voice. We have seen this previously in Psalm 29.
“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’?
But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name.”
Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”
Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered.
Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”
Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake. John 12:27-30
As the Lord spoke affirmation, comfort & encouragement to Jesus those standing by heard a sound like thunder.
Jesus clearly heard the voice of the Lord yet the bystanders heard a roar of thunder.
The Lord’s voice thundered from above yet it was crystal clear to Jesus!!!
The difference must be in who & what are we listening out for. SELAH
If we are seeking to hear the Lord, then we will hear Him speak – whatever the volume !!!
“The Lord thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered His voice. 2 Samuel 22:14
This is a song of praise & thanks from David when he had been delivered from the hand of Saul.
Here God is pictured riding upon angels’ wings in the midst of a mighty storm.
As God speaks He thunders, the words rolling forth readily & freely from His mouth.
They carry power, might & reveal His glory. The God of glory thundering over His creation (Job 37:5).
Lightning depicts the dazzling truth & clarity of God’s words.
An awesome description of the might & power of God’s voice & words.
Great in power mighty is God’s sound. Hallelujah!!!
(sing praises] to Him Who rides upon the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, He sends forth His voice, His mighty voice. Psalm 68:33 Amplified Bible
The Lord our God speaks with a mighty, majestic, powerful thundering voice.
That voice is strong & like a mighty roar. A terror to the foe but sweet like honey for those who are waiting & watching for it.
God has no difficulty making His voice heard or known. He sends it forth to sound clearly & powerfully.
He does it through strength or through silence, in splendour or through simplicity. SELAH
If we are listening, with our spiritual ears & eyes open, we will hear both the whisper & thunderous roar.
God speaks to us in just the way we need to hear. Hallelujah!!!
How sensitive are my spiritual senses, particularly my hearing?
In what ways am I watching & waiting for the voice of the Lord?
Meditate upon the mighty, thunder like voice of the Lord.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you that Your mighty voice sounds forth, ringing & roaring with power & strength,
And thank you that it can be clearly heard by those who are seeking You.
Jesus thank you that You always sought & followed the voice of the Father,
Help me to do the same & to humbly walk the path of obedience.
Holy Spirit sharpen my spiritual senses as You train me to hear & heed the mighty voice of the Lord,
Keep me focussed upon & tuned in to the spectacular & simple ways the Lord speaks.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
