The Voice of the Lord

The Lord our God speaks to reveal His will, word & ways.
That voice is powerful & majestic. It comes through both the spectacular & he simple.
We have previously looked at the Lord’s shout & battle cry (Isaiah 42:13; Psalm 47:5).
Today we will again look at the Lord’s voice that shatters & scatters His enemies.

For through the voice of the Lord
Assyria will be beaten (shattered) down,
As He strikes with the rod. Isaiah 30:31

The Lord marches forth as a mighty man of war to protect His people & to prevail against His enemies.
Here the great prophet Isaiah pictures the Lord bringing fearful judgement upon Assyria.
In that judgement the Lord’s voice beats them down & shatters them.
The Lord’s voice speaks to bring about & accomplish His eternal purposes.
That word accomplishes & prospers in what it was sent forth to do (Isaiah 55:11). SELAH
When God speaks the best course of action is to hear, heed, submit & obey!!!

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, Yes, the Lord splinters the cedars of Lebanon. Psalm 29:5

Psalm 29 once again reveals the power & might of God’s voice & words.
Cedars are strong, durable, robust trees that are known for their longevity.
They were the wood of choice for constructing David’s palace & the Jerusalem temple.
Here the psalmist depicts the voice of the Lord breaking them apart into splinters!!!
Think of the awesome power needed to accomplish that. SELAH
That is the majestic power & might of the Lord’s voice.

Combining these two Scriptures we see the Lord’s voice of judgement.
They also reveal an insight & glimpse into the scale & power of the Lord’s judgements.
His judgements are always just but their impact can at times be awe inspiring.
The Lord pronounces judgements that shatter nations & scatter His enemies – either in the short or longer term.
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God in the wrong way (Hebrews 10:31).
Wonderfully, & thankfully, we are covered by the blood of Christ. Hallelujah!!
The Lord is with us & for us, forever, whilst we remain ‘In Christ’. SELAH

For Reflection

  • How reverently do I approach the living God?
  • In what ways am I maintaining my relationship with Christ?
  • Meditate upon the Lord’s voice that can shatter nations.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that Your voice shatters Your foes,
That Your judgements are just & forever true.
Jesus thank you that You took the judgement that I deserved,
That you bled & died to save me & set me free.
Holy Spirit lead & direct me to always act reverently towards the Lord,
So that my heart may stay pure & my hands remain clean.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
