Christian Relationships

The Apostle Paul had great respect & appreciation for those he worked alongside in spreading the gospel.
When we begin to follow Jesus we enter into a number of new relationships.
We have a personal relationship with the Lord but we are also a part of His people & family.
It is both Me & WE dynamic. This will be our focus for this week’s TFD series.

Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need; Philippians 2:25

In writing to the Philippians Paul gives us a brief glimpse into the nature of those relationships.
Paul notes his colleague & partner in the gospel – Epaphroditus.
He describes him as Paul’s brother, fellow worker & fellow soldier.
At the same time Epaphroditus is a messenger & minister on behalf of the Philippian church.
5 different aspects of Christian relationship highlighted in one small verse!!! SELAH.

We will in turn explore the multi-faceted nature of these relationships & connections.
They express family, friendship & functioning together in the mission of God.
There is a rich quality about them as we serve the Lord alongside one another.
Saints, siblings, soldiers & servants in the Father’s family (kingdom & gospel) business!

To effectively follow & serve the Lord we need one another.
Our differing gifts (natural & spiritual), talents & abilities complement & enhance one another.
That is why there are so many TOGETHER verses in the New Testament. SELAH
We are all different but in & through our diversity we achieve more working alongside one another.
We are stronger, more powerful & more effective for the Lord when we move & work TOGETHER.
Pray for & pass on encouragement to your fellow saints, siblings, soldiers & servants today.

For Reflection

  • Who am I currently working alongside in God’s kingdom & in what capacity?
  • In what ways am I respecting , honouring & appreciating my Christian family?
  • Meditate upon the nature of our various relationships as followers of Christ & members of His body.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You call me to Yourself & into Your family,
Thank you for my fellow family members & help me to always honour them rightly.
Jesus thank you that You are the One who links us all together in the family of God,
That together we are Your body – ready & willing to serve.
Holy Spirit sent me forth as a messenger & minister of the Gospel,
Moving & flowing in the power that You supply.
This I ask in Jesus mighty Name.
