The Way of the Righteous

The Lord blesses the way of the righteous & we see this highlighted in Psalm 1.
We have investigated how our relationship with God is a constant source of refreshment.
In Him, & through Christ, we drink from, & grow roots to, the rivers of the water of life.
Psalm 1 also reveals to us how this relationship, & way of life (righteous living), brings fruitfulness & prosperity to us.
Today we will think around the fruitfulness that flows from that relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favoured by God] is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example],
Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers).
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night.
And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity]. Psalm 1:1-3 Amplified Bible

The Psalmist depicts how the way of the righteous is about walking, sitting & standing in the right company.
It stems form how we live, move & be. The character & behavior we display.
The person who delights in the Lord & His Law (Word) is the one who will experience blessing & favour from the Lord.
The blessed righteous person has developed a habit & lifestyle of spending time in God’s presence. SELAH
Habits lead to lifestyles which determine & shape character. First things FIRST!! The Lord & His Law.

The rivers of water are an easy source of constant refreshment & rich nourishment for this tree in each & every season.
This tree readily buds, blossoms, flowers & fruits. It does not wilt or wither but rather thrives & flourishes.
Fruitfulness is the inevitable result, and it does so reliably – EACH SEASON. It yields willingly & readily. SELAH
Time in God’s presence & daily meditation upon His Word produces godly character.
Godly character leads to wise choices in life which in turn produce consistent living.
All this leads to regular & reliable fruitfulness in the Lord, and His service (Colossians 1:10). So, so good.
Choice upon choice, consequence upon consequence. SELAH

The way of the righteous is the way of the person who will delight themselves in & spend time with the Lord & His word.
That investment produces blessing & favour from the Lord leading to refreshment & fruitfulness.
The Lord is looking for fruitfulness in our lives (Luke 13:6-7). We find it by abiding in Him & His word (John 15:1-8).
All fruitfulness flows from intimacy with the gardener of our lives!! Faithfulness leads to fruitfulness. SELAH
Keep walking in a manner worthy of the Lord, bearing fruit in every good work & increasing in the knowledge of God. Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • How fruitful for the Lord are my life habits in this season?
  • In what ways do I see godly fruitfulness in my life right now?
  • Meditate upon being fruitful in the Lord & in His service.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are the perfect gardener of my life,
That You prune me, shape me & mould me for greater & greater fruitfulness.
Jesus thank you that fruitfulness flows from time in Your presence,
That you are the True Vine supplying rich life & constant nourishment to me.
Holy Spirit keep me walking in a manner that is worthy of the Lord,
Faithful abiding with you & fruitful in good works & service.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Amen
