Formal Prayers

Midday Moment Prayer

You’re with me every morning, beside me all the way,
You know my joy, and worries, cares or needs.
Every minute of each hour your grace flows over me,
Your love and truth connect with all I feel.

And at the midday moment, I choose to talk with you,
To draw so close to you, my heavenly dad.
For what is past is covered by your all redeeming love,
And the future’s filled with hope, so I’ll be glad.

I’ll lift my eyes up to the sky and a sight so beautiful,
I’ll let your light come brighten up the grey,
And wait upon your spirit Lord to blow upon my life.
So come, move through me as I live the rest of this day.

For your kingdom changes everything, it touches all I am,
In everything I think and day or do.
I choose to fix my eyes on you, to take hold of your hand,
I give this midday moment Lord to you.

In Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

Prayers in these Uncertain Times

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy
in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support the anxious and fearful,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may rejoice in your comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ,
you taught us to love our neighbour,
and to care for those in need
as if we were caring for you.
In this time of anxiety, give us strength
to comfort the fearful, to tend the sick,
and to assure the isolated
of our love, and your love,
for your name’s sake.

God of all comfort, God of compassion,
be close to those who are ill, afraid or in isolation.
In their loneliness, be their consolation;
in their anxiety, be their hope;
in their darkness, be their light;
through him who suffered alone on the cross,
but reigns with you in glory,
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord God,
We stand together
We pray for all who are suffering and bereaved.
At this time of sorrow, incomprehension and tragedy, we stand together.
In this crisis, we pray for Your mercy and healing for the sick
and for health and strength for all who care for them.

Lord Jesus, give us the grace to hear your voice,
And the strength to continue working for your kingdom in this time of global tension & crisis.
Do not allow us to be indifferent to those who today suffer the loss of a loved one, or who suffer from the absence of work.
But give us the courage to accompany and side with those who suffer violence or injustice.

Prayers for Healing

God’s healing hand
To our brothers and sisters who are suffering illness at this time,
we pray that God’s healing hand may rest upon you.
To medical doctors, nurses and the supporting staff
who are in the frontline of the fight against sickness & disease,
may the Good Lord sustain you and inspire you
to render your life-saving services with due care, love and compassion.
To all those who have lost their loved ones we convey our deepest sympathies.
We pray that their souls, through God’s mercy, may rest in eternal peace.
We pray that God may grant all bereaved families his consolation and strengthen their faith and hope in Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord.

For those who are mourning
Gracious God,
surround us and all who mourn this day
with your continuing compassion.
Do not let grief overwhelm your children,
or turn them against you.
When grief seems never-ending,
take them one step at a time
along your road of death and resurrection
in Jesus Christ our Lord.

For those who are ill
Merciful God,
we entrust to your tender care
those who are ill or in pain,
knowing that whenever danger threatens
your everlasting arms are there to hold them safe.
Comfort and heal them,
and restore them to health and strength;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For hospital staff and medical researchers
Gracious God,
give skill, sympathy and resilience
to all who are caring for the sick,
and your wisdom to those searching for a cure.
Strengthen them with your Spirit,
that through their work many will be restored to health;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Prayer for Wales

Father, we praise you for your creative nature and the way that is reflected in the variety of churches around Wales. We thank you for the blessings that come out of our diversity and our unity despite the differences through Christ Jesus.

We present ourselves afresh to you, our Father, and the body of Christ in this part of the world. We thank you for our country, its languages and cultures. Our prayer is that you will move powerfully in Wales, that your churches will transform the lives of people, communities and our nation.

Send your Holy Spirit to inspire our mission as you did for Saint David and the missional Celtic Saints of the past and help us to put the gospel to work in the Wales of today.

Thank you, Father, that your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. We praise you that the Bible has been translated into the Welsh language for the third time and in colloquial Welsh.
We pray that the ‘Living Bible’ campaign will bear fruit and that people will return to read the Bible or read your Word for the first time.

We pray that your Church over all the world will grow and prosper – that people will find Jesus in unexpected places and will express his life in prophetic ways.

In Jesus Mighty Name.

For racial equality
Good and gracious God, you invite us to recognize and reverence your divine image and likeness in our neighbour. Enable us to see the reality of racism and free us to challenge and uproot it from our society, our world and ourselves.

For the refugee crisis
Heavenly Father,
you are the source of all goodness, generosity and love.
We thank you for opening the hearts of many
to those who are fleeing for their lives.
Help us now to open our arms in welcome,
and reach out our hands in support.
That the desperate may find new hope,
and lives torn apart be restored.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord,
who fled persecution at His birth
and at His last triumphed over death.

For those held in captivity
Merciful Father,
we cry to you from the depths of our concern
for those wrongly imprisoned or held captive:
for those trying to secure their release,
that the ways of peace and diplomacy may prevail over acts of violence and aggression,
that their captors may know a change of heart;
through him who was sent to proclaim liberty for captives
and to set free those who are oppressed,
your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

For the cold and homeless
God of compassion,
your love for humanity was revealed in Jesus,
whose earthly life began in the poverty of a stable
and ended in the pain and isolation of the cross:
we hold before you those who are homeless and cold
especially in this bitter weather.
Draw near and comfort them in spirit
and bless those who work to provide them
with shelter, food and friendship.
We ask this in Jesus’ name.

For international unrest
Almighty Father,
whose will is to restore all things
in your beloved Son, the King of all:
govern the hearts and minds of those in authority,
and bring the families of the nations,
divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin,
to be subject to his just and gentle rule;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A prayer for family life
God of compassion,
whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary,
shared the life of a home in Nazareth,
and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself:
strengthen us in our daily living
that in joy and in sorrow
we may know the power of your presence
to bind together and to heal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A prayer for children
Loving God,
your Son told his disciples
to become like little children.
Lead us to work for the welfare
and protection of all young people.
May we respect their dignity
that they may flourish in life,
following the example of the same
Jesus Christ our Lord.

A prayer of thanksgiving
Blessed are you, Lord our God.
How sweet are your words to the taste,
sweeter than honey to the mouth.
How precious are your commands for our life,
more than the finest gold in our hands.
How marvellous is your will for the world,
Unending is your love for the nations.
Our voices shall sing of your promises
and our lips declare your praise.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Blessed be God for ever.
