The Everlasting God
The Scriptures reveal to us a number of differing names for God.
In Hebrew the name denotes the nature.
That name I want us to focus upon this week is El Olam – the everlasting or eternal God
Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there called on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God.
And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines many days. Genesis 21:33 NKJV
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:28 NKJV
..but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations,
according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith. Romans 16:26
El Olam is the eternal, everlasting God, without beginning & without end.
The ‘God of the World’ is the one who created everything & continually sustains everything (Colossians 1:15-18).
We, like Abraham, have the wonderful privilege of being able to call on the One who is perpetually present to bestow mercies & blessings upon His people.
Alongside being perpetually present (Hebrews 13:5) El-Olam is the God of limitless past & unending future.
The God who continually exists & continuously cares.
Amazingly, as Isaiah points out to Us, El-Olam never tires or grows weary.
The Everlasting God continually & ceaselessly eternally watches over you.
How comforting is that.
The eternal everlasting God created everything & now holds it all together.
He constantly cares for the planet & He constantly cares for His people.
An eternal everlasting vigil of grace & love.
His mercies & blessings being ceaselessly & constantly pored out.
Do I acknowledge & give thanks for El-Olam’s mercies & blessings?
In what ways am I keeping on calling on the Name of the Lord?
Meditate on the name & nature of El-Olam.
A song related to this theme:
El-Olam, eternal & everlasting God,
Thank you for ceaseless continuous watch over me,
Your perpetual presence with & around me,
Your unending mercy & bounty of blessings,
In Jesus mighty name,
