The God who Forgives
The Lord forgives us because of the perfect sacrifice of Christ (Hebrews 10:10-12).
We are forgiven through His love, by the blood of Christ, through a mighty work of grace (John 3:16).
Totally undeserved we freely receive the forgiveness of God through Christ.
An act of divine grace & mercy. Freely we have received & freely we must give (Matthew 10:8; Romans 3:24).
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:9, 14-15 NKJV
‘In Christ’ we are freed from the power of sin & delivered from it’s mastery over us (no longer slaves to sin Romans 6:15-22).
However, we still live in a world full of sin – the presence of sin surrounding us.
There are still times when we stumble back into sin either in thought, word or deed.
The glorious good news is that forgiveness is readily available to cleanse us afresh (1 John 1:19).
If we will readily confess He will immediately cleanse – so good.
We are forgiven to be forgiving. Set free to help others find freedom.
Jesus teaches us that in the Disciples Kingdom Prayer which we are to take up daily.
We are to continuously live in a free flowing stream of the Lord’s forgiving love.
Forgiveness to us but also through us to others. Freely received & freely given.
Forgiving others frees us from the poisonous build up of hatred & bitterness towards others.
It is not an easy thing to forgive great & grievous hurts or wrongs but the grace to forgive is ever available from our Heavenly Father.
Where sin persists His grace abounds. With God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37, 18:27).
When we readily forgive others we are living & loving like our Heavenly Father.
When we live in God’s forgiving stream of love we find peace.
Peace with God, peace within & peace in our earthly relationships.
The forgiveness of God is a freeing, healing, cleansing fount that flows freely if we will position ourselves in its path & flow.
Will we freely give what God freely gave to us ‘In Christ’?
The power of forgiveness is wholly indescribable & utterly limitless. Hallelujah!!
Let us do all we can to remain in the Father’s fount of forgiving love.
- Am I living in the flow & stream of God’s forgiving love?
- How easy do I find it to forgive others when they have wronged or hurt me?
- Mediate upon the awesome power of forgiveness.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you You are the God who forgives.
Thank you that we are forgiven by the precious blood of Christ,
Thank you for the awesome power of forgiveness.
Through the power & presence of the indwelling Spirit,
Give us compassionate hearts, merciful ears & grace filled eyes.
Help us to forgive every wrong or hurt,
That we might be perfected in love like You.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
