Reconciled to be Reconcilers

God was in Christ reconciling this fallen, broken world to Himself (2 Corinthians 5:19).
The death & resurrection of Christ paving the way for us to become friends rather than enemies of God (Ephesians 2).
As those reconciled in, & through, Christ we are called to the ministry of reconciliation.
New creations ‘In Christ’ calling others to newness of life in Christ the Saviour.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Paul experienced reconciliation with God through a powerful encounter with Christ on the Damascus Road (Acts 9:1-30).
It totally transformed His life & zeal for God. In union with Christ Paul’s great zeal for God was now accompanied by a right & proper knowledge & fear of the Lord.
It turned Paul into a powerful teacher, passionate preacher & zealous missionary.
As a result Paul implored people to be reconciled to God through Christ the Saviour.

Reconciliation restores harmony in relationships & brings us peace with God & one another.
Reconciliation can also be a very messy & incredibly costly business.
It cost Christ His life & Paul endured much suffering as a minister of reconciliation.
God longs to plead through us to see others reconciled to Himself & rescued from sin & death.

Just like Paul, we too have been entrusted with the wonderful message of reconciliation.
Like Paul we are entrusted & empowered as ambassadors of Christ & ministers of reconciliation.
Reconciled ‘In Christ’ to see others reconciled to Christ. Made righteous by the blood of Christ, to plead the power of His blood for the salvation of others.
Are we willing to commit to the hard work & at times endure suffering to bring reconciliation to people, places & this planet.

For Reflection

  • In what ways has God entrusted the ministry of reconciliation to me?
  • Where, or with who, is the Lord asking me to seek or work for reconciliation?
  • Mediate upon the ministry of reconciliation entrusted to us by the Lord.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that for the reconciliation we experience ‘In Christ’.
Transform our lives to be used for Your glory.
Through the power & presence of the indwelling Spirit,
Teach & train us to implore others to be reconciled to You.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
