What feeds your soul?
God’s desire is for us to be like well-watered gardens. Primed, fertile & ready for fruitfulness.
Satisfied & satiated in body, soul & spirit (Jeremiah 31:12, 25; Isaiah 55:1-3).
Fully aware of our God given purpose & the pleasures He has made us for.
Making wise godly choices each & every day that keep nourishing & feeding our soul.
In choosing Christ we choose life, light & love for our souls.
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. Matthew 16:25-27 NKJV
Jesus warns His followers about the impact their choices, behaviour & lifestyle have upon their souls & lives.
Every choice carries consequences for good or for bad, for profit or for loss.
We can be profiting externally through many things but at the same time rapidly diminishing on the inside.
Our bodies & bank balances swelling day by day but our souls silently slipping away!!
We must face & live through the impact of our attitudes & actions so how we feed our souls carries great weight.
Choose wisely, invest appropriately.
We lose our lives to find them ‘In Christ’. That is an eternal WIN.
That is real profit – abundant increase in the inner life.
Surrendering to Christ is the ultimate way that we find our true self & abundantly feed our souls.
In Christ alone we find life, & life in all its abundance (John 10:10).
When we discover new life ‘In Christ’ we begin as new-born babes.
We must learn to feed ourselves properly if we are to grow & develop unto maturity (Colossians 1:27-29).
As for the natural being, so for the spiritual being.
In our infancy we rely upon others for help & support with the feeding process.
Over time & as we grow we must move off milk onto solid food & the meat of God’s word (Hebrews 5:12-14).
Spiritual food & nourishment comes from the Lord, most readily through His Word (Matthew 4:4).
We need to have a balanced healthy diet & increasingly learn how to feed ourselves.
Feeding your soul can be facilitated & assisted by others but it is ultimately your own responsibility.
People can give you wise godly advice, great teaching & expert instruction ‘In Christ’.
HOWEVER only you can resist the temptations of this world & the accusations of the enemy (Revelation 12:10).
In the secret, unseen place it falls to you to make the right choices – each & every time.
What you have invested in & ingested will determine how you respond. What goes in will come out.
Tomorrow you become what you choose today – so very, very true.
Christ, through His Spirit, will always provide direction & offer guidance but your will ultimately determines the choices you make.
That is why submission & surrender unto Christ & His ways, will & word is so important.
At the same time that we are feeding our souls with proper nourishment we must also learn to guard our hearts well (Proverbs 4:23; Luke 6:45).
The abundance of our hearts will undoubtedly overflow. Again what goes in will eventually come out.
You, & you alone, are the determining factor. Spiritual transformation & soul care are ever issues of choice & matters of the heart.
Keep watch over them both well. In so many ways they define & direct your live.
Speak truth to my heart O Lord Christ, & through Your Spirit & Word, direct & define my choices.
- In what ways am I increasing in the inner life?
- How am I caring for my soul & guarding my heart?
- Do I take appropriate responsibility to feed my soul or am I relying too much upon others?
- Meditate upon the maturing process ‘In Christ’.
