What feeds your soul?

The manner in which we tend our souls has a huge impact on the quality of our lives.
We have explored the importance of the choices we make, & the constant need to guard our hearts, as we feed our souls.
We are so often being implored about a balanced life. Particularly the work – life balance.
However for the follower of Jesus it is far more about a surrendered life than a balanced life (James 4:6-8).
A surrender to the One who alone can drench & satiate our souls.
Balance in life is important but surrender & submission unto the Lordship of Christ comes first.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:4-8 NKJV

There still remains the need to find balance in the surrendered live.
That balance must find its source & flow out of submission to Christ.
We abide in the Lord so that we can be fruitful & productive for Him.
We BE with Him so that out of that we can DO for Him.
We work from rest in Christ rather than work for rest.
Christ is the source, supply, & substance of all we are to be & do.
We find balance in life – our, work, rest & play – as we rest & abide In Him.

When we abide in Christ we allow the Father to prune us where it is needed.
He prunes & shapes us to make us even more fruitful.
The fruitfulness of Kingdom work that brings glory to His great Name.
Pruning can be frustrating & even painful but it carries great benefits & rewards.
It makes us more fruitful in terms of quantity but more importantly quality.
Our Father is a master vinedresser. May we readily submit & surrendered to His tender & skillful touch.

Rest in Christ is the source of true rest & replenishment for your souls as well as the constant source of your fruitfulness for Him.
Daily submission & surrender unto Christ & His ways, will & word are vital.  Invest in rest, abide in Christ.
As we abide & rest In Christ we will discover spiritual practices & disciplines that help nourish & develop our souls.
What starts as a duty (the discipline required to establish a helpful habit) becomes a delight as it supplies life unto us.
Delight yourself in the Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
Abide, rest & delight yourself in The Lord.  It is the source & supply of true rest & constant replenishment for your soul.

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I abiding in Christ? How I am delighting myself in the Lord.
  • What is being pruned back in my life right now?
  • Where & in what ways am I fruitful for the Lord?
  • Meditate upon the vital importance of surrender & the need for balance.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the rest & replenishment I find ‘In Christ’ the True Vine.
May the rich life that flows from the living root supply all my needs according to the riches of Your grace.
Through the power & presence of Your indwelling Spirit,
Give me daily grace & strength to keep surrendering unto You.
Help me to submit to Your tender, skillful pruning,
So that I may be increasingly fruitful for You,
To bring great glory & honour to Your great Name.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
