What feeds your Soul?
Yesterday we examined the practical wisdom that Proverbs 4 offered in tending our souls.
The Psalms too are full of insights & advice about how to nurture our inner being.
The secret is to look unto & wait upon the Lord – to have an appetite & desire for Him above all else (Psalm 42:1-2, Psalm 63:1-2).
God alone is the one who can bring lasting benefit & rich blessing to our souls.
To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, I trust in You;
Let me not be ashamed;
Let not my enemies triumph over me. Psalm 25:1-2
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope in His mercy,
To deliver their soul from death,
And to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
For our heart shall rejoice in Him,
Because we have trusted in His holy name.
Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us,
Just as we hope in You. Psalm 33:18-22
Below is a list (not comprehensive) of what our wonderful Lord does for our souls.
The Lord redeems our souls – He rescues & saves then from death & destruction (Psalm 34:22).
He restores our soul bringing healing & wholeness to the wounds & brokenness that sin & life inflict upon us (Psalm 23:3).
The Lord converts our soul bringing godly transformation as we align ourselves to His word, will & ways (Psalm 19:7).
He is both the strength (Psalm 138:5) & the comfort of our souls (Psalm 94:19).
The Lord is the one who satisfies our souls with abundance (Psalm 63:5).
They find their true rest in God alone (Psalm 116:7).
How good is all this – just amazing!! His goodness & grace know no bounds or limits.
We take great care to feed our bodies – most of us at least 3 times a day plus snacks on top!!
We also spend time attending to our physical appearance.
Our souls need the same care & attention.
Never allow your soul to starve or become unkempt..
Let it find it’s fulfillment & true rest in the Lord it’s Creator & Redeemer.
Pursue Him with passion to persistently & patiently wait upon Him.
The rewards are incredible. Satisfaction is guaranteed.
Have mercy O Lord upon our souls.
- In what ways am I lifting my soul unto the Lord?
- How strong is my desire, & how large is my appetite, for God right now?
- Am I persistent & patient in the wait?
- Meditate upon the abundant & rich benefits & blessings that the Lord provides for our souls.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you for all You do & provide for my soul.
Thank you that You are the restorer & redeemer of my soul.
That in You there is help, strength, healing, wholeness, rest, joy, comfort & abundance for my soul.
You are so, so good to me O Lord,
Thank you for the depths of Your great love & care.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
