The Power of Scripture

Scripture is a precious priceless gift to us from God.
Spurgeon & Wigglesworth – 2 great men of God – exhorted believers to live in the Bible.
It is reported that Wigglesworth would read no other book!!
That is because Scripture carries great power to change & transform our lives.
Read them, study them, mediate upon them, memorise them, pray them & proclaim them.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV

The Scriptures given by divine inspiration through the Holy Spirit benefit us in so many ways.
Through the Spirit God breathed His power & authority into the words that were written.
They reveal the Lord & His purposes & they all point to Jesus the Messiah – our wonderful Saviour.
We need to seek & find the Lord Jesus on every page of Scripture.
We ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Living Word (Christ) through the written word.

That is where we form our doctrine (our beliefs which affect & influence our behaviour).
At the same time it teaches us to live in God’s world, God’s way.
Scripture teaches & trains us in righteousness (right living).
It does this be highlighting our flaws, weaknesses & shortcomings (reproof & rebuke).
As revelation breaks in (Psalm 119:130) it brings correction to our lives & rightly aligns us with the will & way of God.
In doing so it equips & empowers us to live for God & walk in the good works He has prepared for us in advance (Ephesians 2:10).

When it comes to Scripture to truly access it’s full potential & power we need both knowing & knowledge.
Scripture is a love letter from the Lord & we use it to grow in intimacy & personal knowledge of Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
Alongside this there is no substitute for a thorough knowledge of the whole counsel of God (the whole Bible).
If we are to faithfully pray & proclaim the word of God we have to know the Scriptures.
We have to invest time & energy in getting to grips with the Scriptures.
Daily devotions, regular study & committing them to memory are all key disciplines we must engage in.
However you can immerse yourself in the Word of God. Live it, learn it, let it loose in & through your life.
Let it change & transform your attitudes & actions as you fellowship with the Trinity through it.
Let it be a close companion & well visited friend on your continuing journey with Jesus.
As you do it will glorify the Lord in, & through, you.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for the precious gift of Your word,
All Your wonderful promises & purposes it reveals to us.
Holy Spirit keep revealing Jesus to us in the Scriptures,
Keep us disciplined & dedicated to going deeper & deeper in Your word,
That we may pray & proclaim it with true power & authority.
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
