The Power of Scripture
Scripture is a a hugely profitable resource for every child of God.
It shapes & moulds us powerfully as disciples of Christ.
The Bible brings conviction to our sin & wrongdoing & correction to our attitudes & actions.
It provides the strength & wisdom to help us make godly decisions & to travel the Lord’s paths of righteousness, peace & truth (Psalm 23:3; Proverbs 3:17; Psalm 25:10).
Scripture, partnered together with the sanctifying & empowering work of the Holy Spirit, prepares & matures us as disciples who make disciples of the nations (Matthew 28:18-20).
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place,
until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,
for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21 NKJV
The Scriptures are prophetic & carry the power to reveal Jesus.
They shine the light of Christ into the dark places of our hearts & lives & the darkness in this world.
The Scriptures were divinely inspired & they need to be divinely interpreted.
The original inspiring author – the Holy Spirit – is crucial if we want to understand Scripture properly.
The Spirit revealing Christ & shining light as we seek & search for Christ in all of Scripture.
When it comes to Scripture we must never rely upon our own intellect.
We need the revelation that comes form the Holy Spirit (Psalm 119:105 & 130).
We need the words of encouragement, comfort & direction that flow forth from God (Matthew 4:4).
Alongside of this anointed godly teachers & preachers can inspire & instruct us.
Biblical commentaries & Christian books can be helpful too.
Content & context are the key. Use the tools & resources that the Lord has made available.
Scripture was given to aid, assist, strengthen & support us as disciples of Christ.
We have the divine author – the Holy Spirit – to help us access & understand them.
In addition to this there are a multitude of resources to help us gather knowledge.
However knowledge is not knowing. Seek to know Him above all else (Philippians 3:9-11).
All Scripture points to Christ:
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life. John 5:39-40
It is the Holy Spirit’s job to help us find Him. If we want to know Christ more & more then Scripture & the Spirit are 2 complimentary keys.
Will we keep trusting the Spirit to aid & assist us in the quest to find & meet Jesus through His word?
Holy Spirit open our eyes (spiritual) to see & meet with Christ through the Word & words of God.
- Am I disciplined in daily searching the Scriptures?
- Do I readily ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ to me through the Bible?
- Meditate on the power of Scripture to revel Christ.
A song related to this theme:
We thank you for the power that the Scriptures contain,
That they prophecy of Christ & all His ways.
Holy Spirit keep revealing Jesus to us in, & through, the Scriptures,
Keep us disciplined & dedicated to receiving revelation of Christ.
Help us to know Him, more deeply & more intimately,
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
