The Great Gift of the Holy Spirit
God is ever generous & gives liberally & abundantly to His beloved children.
That is why the Holy Spirit is poured out freely & lavished upon us.
Not only is the Holy Spirit a great gift to us He also releases gifts in & through us.
The gift that gives & keeps on giving. So good!
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
If anyone speaks, let him speak as the ]oracles of God. If anyone ministers,
let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11
The Holy Spirit is active in empowering our gifts for service in God’s kingdom.
He sanctifies the motivational gifts of Romans 12 that we naturally move in.
He activates the manifestations of the Spirit released for the common good we see listed in 1 Corinthians 12-14.
He empowers & equips the ministry & equipping gifts (APEST or 5 Fold) of Ephesians 4.
He supplies the grace & ability we require to function effectively & as God desires, in any of these gifts.
The purpose is always to glorify God & serve others.
Each one of us (ALL without exception) have been graced with spiritual gifts.
We will operate in every type of the gift above.
We must therefore be disciplined to use those gifts as the Holy Spirit leads & directs.
I therefore have a responsibility to develop the gift in partnership with the Spirit.
This requires discipline, dedication & attention to detail to hone, strengthen & sharpen the gift/s entrusted to us.
Much like David’s fighting men who thoroughly equipped themselves & made sure they were ready for battle (1 Chronicles 12:1-2).
The Spirit supplies, sustains & helps us sharpen the gifts. Again so good!
The Spirit graces us with speaking, serving or gifts that provide signs that point to Jesus & the Kingdom of God.
These spiritual gifts are to be exercised inside (for ministry) & outside of the church (for mission).
The gifts are always given to reveal the Giver. To give glory unto God & lift Jesus high.
May we use them wisely in response to the Spirit to glorify God & serve humanity.
The gifts flow to you to flow through you. Let the Spirit who gives direct & guide the flow!
- In what ways have I been gifted by God?
- Am I faithfully exercising the gifts God has blessed me with?
- Am I using those gifts for both ministry & mission?
- Meditate on the variety of gifts that the Holy Spirit empowers in us.
A song related to this theme:
We thank You for the great gift of Your Holy Spirit,
The Spirit who gives life & gifts to the people of God.
May He lead us & empower us in the gifts He graces us with,
Teach us to let Him guide us in our gifts,
That we may function in them powerfully to glorify Your great name & serve others,
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
