The Just Shall Live by Faith

We have explored how saving faith is the starting point of a life journey with Jesus.
That faith must grow & develop for us to lay hold of our full salvation.
The ‘just’ keep close (constant) company with Jesus & persist in the life of faith until they receive the reward.
They are those who push on & press in to all that God has for them ‘In Christ’.
They lay hold tightly & refuse to let go!! They keep the faith.

Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.
For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
37 “For yet a little while,
And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”
But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
Hebrews 10:35-39

Our confidence in Christ our Saviour carries great reward.
However we must persist & endure to lay hold of & receive that promise.
The righteous (those justified by faith ‘In Christ’) live (daily trusting God) by faith.
They continue to trust & rely on the saving work of Christ & in God’s protection & provision each & every day.
They keep believing & they keep persevering in the life of faith no matter what they are experiencing or encountering.
They hold fast the great confession (Hebrews 4:14) until their salvation appears (departing this life or Christ returning).
In life & death they cling tenaciously to their absolute trust in Christ as their saviour & Lord.

The righteous push on & press in to all that God has for them ‘In Christ’ (Philippians 3:12-16).
They keep their eyes & faith fully focused on Jesus (Hebrews 12:-2).
They do not shrink back through fear & faltering but continue to wage the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12).
We must battle through this life & keep persevering in our faith.
That is why it is important to have in place the things that stir, support, strengthen, succour & sustain our faith.
Spiritual disciplines together with the company, companionship & camaraderie of other believers.
TOGETHER we help, encourage & enable one another to push on & press in to all God has for us.

Christ saved us through His death & resurrection.
He is saving us through the sanctification of our souls in the power of the Spirit.
He will complete that salvation on the day of redemption (Luke 21:28).
In the interim we hold fast the good confession (Christ is Lord & Saviour) & persist in the faith – no matter what.
We do not draw back, give in to doubts or discouragements, drift away or become distracted.
NO we stay focused, we stay faithful & we push on & press in through faith to all God has for us.
ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS – keep fighting the good fight of faith. Keep keeping the faith.
Stir & strengthen our faith O Lord.

For Reflection

  • Am I daily holding fast the good confession?
  • In what ways am I waging the goof fight of faith right now?
  • Meditate on the need to persevere in the life of faith.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the great reward & promise we have in Christ.
Jesus lead us on in the journey & battle through this life that is our faith.
Holy Spirit strengthen, sustain, equip & empower us,
To push on & press in to all that our Father has for us.
That we might lay hold & take full possession of the great promise & reward – the great day of our redemption.
This we ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
