Encourage One Another
God uses His people to build one another up.
The family of God & body of Christ are a community of encouragers.
Encouragers living in & contributing to a culture of encouragement & affirmation.
Spurring on & strengthening one another in our journey with Jesus.
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
The writer to the Hebrews encourages his readers to exhort & build one another up daily.
It is something that is urgent & needs to be exercised & practiced TODAY.
Encouragement & edification are a daily discipline that when practiced faithfully become a delight.
In this way they becomes a way of life & a natural habit.
By intentionally being an encourager I inherently become a builder up of others.
We have previously noted how encouragement & edification carry great potential for good & power to bring about change.
We see examples of that in today’s scripture passages.
Building up & encouraging others stirs up love & good works in the Christian community.
Affirming & applauding words stimulate & highly motivate people to positive action.
Encouragement & edification also keeps our focus on the Lord.
It lifts heads, stirs & strengthens hearts & helps to guard us from the temptations that draw us away to sin.
They are crucial to our spiritual development as they are one of the ways that we become partakers of Christ.
Everybody grows & develops through affirmation & encouragement.
We need the encouragement & affirmation of one another for effective spiritual formation ‘In Christ’.
We go together & we grow together!
- Am I encouraging people every day? How? Who?
- Who am I intentionally affirming & encouraging in their walk with Jesus.
- Meditate on the important role encouragement & edification play in our spiritual formation in ‘Christ’.
An encouraging song:
Thank you for the natural & spiritual power of encouragement & edification.
May we be a people who daily practice encouraging words & loving actions,
A community that affirms & applauds one another at all times.
That Your kingdom might be manifest on this earth & people increasingly renewed in Your image.
This we ask in, & through, the mighty Name of Jesus.
