The Power of Testimony

Words are powerful & in sharing the Good News about Jesus we share the most powerful words in the world.
Words which carry the potential to transform a life & influence an eternal destiny.
The Holy Spirit equips & empowers us to be witnesses for Christ (Acts 1:8).
Our responsibility is to faithfully share our story of coming to faith in Christ.
We are to testify to the Saviour’s saving power to change & transform lives.

But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake. But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; Luke 21:12-14

The Holy Spirit is our great enabler & the One who empowers & enriches our communication.
No matter what circumstances we find ourselves in He will provide us with the words we need to say.
The Holy Spirit is able to turn & transform any situation into an opportunity for testimony!!
We don’t need to have all the detail fully planned out but we do need to look to & trust the Holy Spirit.
A framework (like we shared yesterday) to work from is helpful but faith in the Spirit’s enabling is the key.
The Holy Spirit always testifies of & about Jesus (John 15:26).
He will do so through us if we will make room for Him.
We are not, & are never, alone when it comes to testifying about Jesus. How good that is.

So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening. And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved. Acts 28:23-24

The Apostle Paul was a tireless witness who seized every opportunity to testify of Christ.
As he testified he sought to persuade his hearers that Jesus was truly Saviour, Lord & King.
He prayed for people to become Christians (Acts 26:28-29) & he looked for a response from the audience.
Some would believe unto salvation & some disbelieved & left with hardened hearts.
The key thing was to keep on being a faithful witness.
As the Holy Spirit enabled & empowered him Paul did exactly that.
We are responsible to share & give testimony. Those who hear & listen are responsible for how they respond.

Our testimony & witness are so important as how can people hear & respond unless they are told (Romans 10:14-15).
We are ever aided & empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Let us be ready & willing to share our testimony – praying for opportunities to do so.
As we are faithful witnesses may God be glorified & may people come to faith in Christ.
As we go let it be so Lord.

For Reflection

  • Paul opened his home (despite being under arrest!) to share the Gospel. What can I use to help me share the Gospel?
  • Do I ask for, & pray about, opportunities to be a witness & share my testimony?
  • Meditate upon the Holy Spirit our great enabler.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for saving me through Christ my Saviour.
Jesus help me to make You known through my life & through my lips.
Holy Spirit thank you that You my great enabler,
Strengthen me & work through me to testify of the saving work & power of Christ,
So that many people might come to know the Saviour.
This I ask in, & through, Your mighty Name.
