Three Key Kingdom Dynamics

Jesus’ death & resurrection guarantee that the Kingdom of God will triumph over the kingdoms of this world (Revelation 11:15).
Through Christ we receive an exodus from sin & death, a return from exile in our relationship with God & the defeat of Satan & evil.
We saw yesterday how we Christ the victor triumphed over Satan & the powers of darkness.
The third element to explore is God’s return to Zion to dwell amongst His people.

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:1-4

Israel enjoyed & celebrated God dwelling amongst His chosen people -the Shekinah glory!!
The presence of God was experienced in the pillar of cloud & fire, then the tabernacle & eventually the temple.
The exile into Babylon with the resulting destruction of the temple meant the presence of God departed.
Despite returning from exile after 70 years Israel were still looking for God’s presence to return into their midst.
It was an ongoing great hope & prayerful expectation of Israel.

Through Jesus kingdom ministry we see this great hope fulfilled in 2 ways.
Firstly through the incarnation. Immanuel – God with us (Matthew 1:23).
God was in Christ tabernacling again with His people (John 1:14).
Sadly many in Israel missed the visitation of God through Jesus the Messiah (John 1:10-12).
In some senses this visitation was veiled & hidden for those with faith in the Saviour to receive.

Through Christ’s great victory via His death & resurrection God is putting all things right.
We see this now as people & places are restored & transformed through the gospel of the Kingdom.
Because of the victory of God in Christ the whole earth will be put right too (Revelation 21 & 22).
God will take up residence in the midst of His people again – this time totally unveiled for all to see.
The glory of the Lord will illuminate & the Lamb will be perpetual light for the people of God (Revelation 21:22-27).
The Lord & the Lamb returning to Zion to tabernacle forever with the redeemed of the Lord.
The Shekinah glory & manifest presence of God forever with His bride (the Church).
It is our future hope, rightful home & eternal habitation. How amazing that is. WOW!!
Hallelujah!! What a mighty Saviour, Lord & King.

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I seeking & finding the presence of God in my life?
  • In what ways have I experienced & tasted God’s glory? Where & what is my future hope?
  • Meditate upon the Lord dwelling eternally with His people.

A song relating to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the eternal victory you have won in Christ,
That through Him You returned & will return fully to Your people.
Jesus thank you that you are my perpetual light..
Holy Spirit help me to keep seeking & finding the presence of God,
And help me to play my part in people experiencing & tasting the presence & glory of the Lord.
This I ask in, & through, Your mighty Name.
