Amazing Grace, Unfailing Love
Jesus tells a very powerful story about a loving father welcoming back a lost son.
The emotion, intimacy & interaction in the parable is incredibly moving. We read it in Luke 15:11-32.
It is a tale & portrayal of how each one of us has rejected our Heavenly Father, wished Him dead, & gone our own way in life.
Incredibly we are welcomed back through His amazing grace & unfailing love.
“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry. Luke 15: 20-24
The fathers great love meant he never stopped looking for his lost son.
Despite the pain & heartbreak of rejection & loss the father never stopped loving.
We see a passionate & powerful love that never gives up & is ever ready to forgive.
Once the son came to his senses & returned home (repented) the father was waiting.
Great compassion & love flowed in a passionate tearful embrace.
Great grace followed as lavish gifts were then bestowed upon the restored son.
We see the father restoring the lost son in several ways:
- Identity & intimacy (the sandals of sonship)
- Worth & value (the cloak of family & kinship)
- Belonging, trust & significance (the ring of authority)
- Provision & protection (a household where all the father has is yours)
- Celebration (of the individual & loving relationships)
We will explore each aspect a little further over the coming days.
God is that loving father to each & every one of us.
He graciously bestows upon us a signet ring of power, a royal robe & sandals to welcome us back into His family.
He celebrates with us & He celebrates us. He provides a home where all He has is ours.
What amazing grace & what incredible, lavish (1 John 3:1) & unfailing love.
What a wonderful & perfect heavenly Father He is (James 1:17).
Bask in the lavish love of your heavenly Father.
- Do I feel fully restored in my relationship with Father God?
- In what ways have I experienced the Father’s great love & compassion?
- Meditate upon the parable of the lost son & loving father.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you for Your amazing grace & unfailing love,
That in Your great compassion you welcome me home ‘In Christ’.
Thank you for the height, depth, length & breadth of the forgiveness & restoration I have received,
Thank you for the gifts of grace You lavishly bestow upon me & that all you have is mine.
Lord God, I stand in awe of your mighty love & grace.
In Jesus mighty Name.
