Amazing Grace, Unfailing Love

Jesus’ most powerful parable (Luke 15:11-32) sees a loving father beautifully welcome home a lost son.
The son received an unexpected welcome & lavish gifts that confirmed his identity, filled him with worth & restored his purpose & significance.
A robe of honour, sandals of freedom & a ring of power & authority all speaking powerfully about his relationship & role as a beloved son.
As well as all that he also received the blessing & benefit of returning home.

So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe [for the guest of honour] and put it on him; and give him a ring for his hand, and sandals for his feet. And bring the fattened calf and slaughter it, and let us [invite everyone and] feast and celebrate; for this son of mine was [as good as] dead and is alive again; he was lost and has been found.’ So they began to celebrate. Luke 15: 20-24

Home is a special place. The place of family. They also say that home is where the heart is.
This son returned to the place & family he knew but more wonderfully than that he reconnected with the heart of his father.
The father he had rejected & wished dead providing an outrageously lavish welcome home.
Their hearts reconnecting through the deep embrace, strong hugs, the many kisses & the tears of joy that flowed freely.
Love makes itself known no matter what (1 Corinthians 13)! Love never fails & it never gives up!!!
We are only truly home when we are fully restored to the heart of our loving heavenly Father. Home is where HIS heart is!!!
In the Lord’s amazing grace & unfailing love he has provided this return for us in Christ our saviour.
Home is also the place where we are protected & the place where we are provided for.
The son returned to the security of His father’s protection & provision.
Everything the father had was once again made available to the returning son.
The older son learnt a valuable lesson here too. Everything the father had was his & always had been his.
How easy it us for us to forget the vast privileges & manifold blessings we receive daily from our heavenly Father
The Lord withholds nothing from His own dear children (Romans 8:32; 1 Corinthians 3:21-23).
All things are ours – In Christ – how amazing is that!!!
This parable portrays a powerful picture of the welcome, warmth & benefits we receive when we return home ‘In Christ’.
The Lord daily blesses us through His constant watch over us & the daily provision of our needs (Matthew 6:11).
His providence is unending & unlimited – just amazing. What a wonderful Father He is.
Thank you, Father, for Your amazing grace & unfailing love. How can I ever stop singing your praises!!!

For Reflection

  • Am I aware of & truly thankful for the Lord’s gracious daily providence?
  • In what ways might I act like the older son in this parable?
  • Meditate upon the significance of being HOME.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the protection & provision You ceaselessly undertake for me,
That I am forever surrounded by Your great love & care.
Jesus thank you for making a way & for leading & guiding me home to Father’s heart.
Holy Spirit keep cultivating in me the attitude of gratitude,
Help me to lay hold of all that I posses in & through Christ.
In Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
