Wholehearted Devotion

The Lord is ever looking for those who are loyal & fully committed to Him.
He longs for & seeks wholehearted devotion. He gives all & He longs for us to give our all unto Him in return.
To be those who will follow the Lord with all their hearts, totally committed & fully devoted to Him.
The Scriptures reveal this to us in numerous places & in several differing ways.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and from throughout the whole earth,
to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.
In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.” 2 Chronicles 16:9

Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day,
because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. Joshua 14:14

These 2 Scripture reveal how God was looking for wholehearted devotion in His people.
King Asa of Judah was found lacking in some respects & he & the nation would suffer consequences as a result.
There are ever consequences – good, indifferent or bad – to each & every attitude & action!!!
The Lord is ever ready to forgive our foolish or sinful ways but we so often must face the consequences.
Caleb however wholly followed the Lord & as a result (years later) he took full possession of his inheritance in the land of Israel.

The Scriptures reveal how God is looking for whole hearted commitment, loyalty & devotion in a number of areas:
Loving the lord
Trusting the Lord
Obeying the Lord
Worshipping & Praising the Lord
Working for the Lord.
We will take some time over the following days to explore each in turn.

Many of the promises & blessings of God are conditional.
They require our commitment, obedience, faithfulness & loyalty.
God is ever faithful & always keeps His word. We are the ones who so often waver.
Loving the Lord requires our constant & fully committed devotion.
May we find the strength & fortitude to wholly, & wholeheartedly, follow the Lord.

For Reflection

  • What is the state of my heart in terms of loyalty & devotion to the Lord?
  • Am I aware of any area where the Lord is calling me to deeper commitment & devotion?
  • Meditate upon what it means to wholly follow the Lord.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You look upon the heart,
Search me & know my heart,
That I may become more & more devoted unto You.
In Jesus mighty Name.
