Wholehearted Devotion

As the Lord’s beloved children, we are called to wholehearted devotion unto Him.
With all our hearts we are to Love the Lord, Trust the Lord, Obey the Lord, Praise the Lord & Work for the Lord.
We have thought about wholeheartedly loving, trusting, obeying, praising & worshipping the Lord.
Today we will explore what it means to wholeheartedly Work for the Lord.

Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh,
not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God.
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:22-24

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people Ephesians 6:7 NIV

Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Ephesians 6:7 NLT

We are called to serve the Lord & people. One of the ways we serve is through our work (paid or voluntary).
That service & work is to be offered wholeheartedly & enthusiastically (1 Samuel 12:24).
Everything we do – all our work & service – is to be done unto the Lord. He is our ultimate Master.
In seeking to please Him this means we do our very best – wherever & whenever we find ourselves at work.
We seek to bring excellence (NB – not perfectionism) to all our work & service to glorify our Lord & Master.

The Lord delights in the work & service offered & done unto Him.
Not only that but He is a just & faithful rewarder of our efforts.
He sees & hears everything & He justly rewards us from the inheritance we have in Christ.
That has an outworking in the present & in the future.
We are receiving the kingdom & all the blessings of salvation & sanctification.

Serving & working to an excellent standard will require our effort & energy.
We will need to apply ourselves with discipline, diligence & dedication (2 Timothy 2:3-7).
We will also need to pay attention to the fine detail of things. Excellence can be exacting!!!
The Lord in His goodness & grace will help & strengthen us in our service & work.
He will bless & establish the work of our hands (Psalm 90:17). Hallelujah!
Glorify the Lord with all your heart through your work & service.

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I glorifying God in my service & work?
  • Do I seek excellence in all I do for God & others?
  • Meditate upon what it means to wholeheartedly work for & serve the Lord.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are a just & compassionate Master & that You justly reward Your servants.
Lord Jesus thank you that You came to serve me through your mighty saving work.
Holy Spirit bless & establish the work of my hands & give me a spirit of excellence to serve & work.
Keep me wholeheartedly serving & working unto the Lord.
In Jesus mighty Name.
