Wholehearted Devotion

As the Lord’s people we are called to wholehearted devotion unto Him.
With all our hearts we are to Love the Lord, Trust the Lord, Obey the Lord, Praise the Lord & Work for the Lord.
Caleb is a striking example of someone who wholly followed the Lord.
He succeeded, where so many others failed, because he was ‘of a different spirit’.
It works the same for us – we have the Spirit to help, support & strengthen us.

Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day,
because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. Joshua 14:14

But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it. Numbers 14:24

To wholly follow the Lord will need us to apply ourselves to:
Concentrate – We need to be constantly committed to giving our all unto the Lord.
This requires great concentration & dedication. Constant focus & desire.
Paul was aways striving to lay hold of all that Christ had laid hold of him for (Philippians 3:13).
Completeness (focus) – we are to follow with undivided hearts unreservedly & without hesitation.
This requires constant focus, attention & awareness. Giving Him all that we have & yielding all that we are.
Ever looking & moving forward with no going back (Luke 9:23-27, 57-62).
Constancy – It is a never-ending quest & process with no let up. 24/7/365!!
We are called to serve the Lord daily. To follow Him all the time & keep on following Him day after day.
We all struggle as Peter (Luke 22:33-34 cf Luke 22:54-62), & many others, have struggled in this realm.

None of us can do all of the above well enough in our own strength.
We therefore need a special Companion to assist & strengthen us.
The great news for us as disciples of Jesus is that we are promised the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17).
He is the key providing the guidance, strength & means that enable us to succeed.
In, & through, the Spirit we can offer up wholehearted devotion to the Lord.

Our special Companion is the comforter, the advocate, the counsellor & the helper.
The key to wholehearted devotion is to be led & guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit filled life brings the breakthrough we need to offer the required service (worship & witness).
Be comforted that your companion, the comforter & counsellor, will help you be wholly devoted unto the Lord.

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I glorifying God in my service & work?
  • How is my relationship with the Holy Spirit going?
  • Meditate upon the requirements of wholehearted devotion.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for Your great love for me & the constant grace You extend to me.
Lord Jesus thank you that You gave Your all for me.
Holy Spirit my companion, comforter & counsellor,
Lead & guide me into ever deeper devotion unto the Lord.
This is ask In Jesus mighty Name.
