Sons and Heirs
Through the saving work of Christ we are transformed from being slaves to sin to glorious sons & heirs of God (Romans 6:15-22).
Through the redemption we have ‘In Christ’ we are reconciled to God (Romans 5:10).
As dearly beloved children in our heavenly Father’s family we become heirs.
All the Father has is made available in & through Christ. We are joint heirs with Jesus (Romans 8:17).
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:26-29
This redemptive & reconciling journey takes place through:
- Faith in the saving work of Christ.
- Intimacy in our relationship with Father, Son & Spirit
- Being united as co-equals & precious children in the family of God
- The promises of God being fulfilled in us
- A present & future inheritance.
We will explore more of each of these over the coming days.
As redeemed & renewed image bearers we get to experience intimacy with God.
We are at peace with God (reconciled), stand in His grace & have free access to His presence (Romans 5:1-3).
Gloriously saved through the death & resurrection of Christ & freed to enjoy a Covenant relationship with Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
So much to rejoice in, experience & celebrate.
As children of God we are heirs. We are already receiving an inheritance, with more & better still to come!
That is the responsible part of the relationship. Heirs carry a responsibility for the family.
The responsibility to be about & continue the Father’s family business.
That is the great kingdom assignment we have as sons & heirs of God.
- In what ways am I experiencing intimacy in my relationship with Father, Son & Spirit?
- Am I delighting in being a child of God?
- Meditate upon our relationship & responsibility as sons & heirs of God.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you that You so loved me that You sent Christ to die on my behalf & in my place,
Thank you for saving me.
Lord Jesus thank you that through You I am redeemed & reconciled to the Father,
Freed form the slavery of sin into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Holy Spirit draw me deeper into an intimate walk with the Lord,
Strengthen me each day as I walk with you through this life..
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
