Prayer Matters

Prayer is such a vital priority that we are to persevere in as Christians.
Through the differing patterns & posture available to us we forge partnerships in prayer.
Partnerships with the Holy Spirit & one another that help us lay hold of the power of prayer.
Today I want to think a little more about the POWER of prayer.

So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain,
‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart,
but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray,
believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11:22-24 NKJV

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me,
the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. John 14:12-16 NKJV

Two key things contribute to the power & potential of prayer.
We pray in faith & with expectation that God hears us & answers our every prayer.
We pray in Jesus name & in line with the will, word & ways of God.
The Word of God (Scripture) always contains an outline of the will & ways of God.
The genuine will, word & ways of God will never, & should never, violate Scripture.
With prayers of faith, aligned fully with God’s will, we can move physical & spiritual mountains in prayer!!!

We saw yesterday how prayers of agreement harness power in our prayers (Matthew 18:19-20).
That agreement must always be fully in line with the will, word & ways of God.
It is never our wish list but always a His will list!!!
The prayer of faith carries power to heal the sick (James 5:14-16).
In like manner prayer carries power to bring deliverance (Mark 9:29).
Prayer & fasting can also increase our spiritual effectiveness (Matthew 17:21; Daniel 9:3).

Prayer in itself is powerful & ALWAYS makes a difference.
Prayer – secret, fervent, believing prayer – lies at the root of all personal godliness. ~ Williams Carey
Wonderfully there are things we can combine prayer with that make it even more potent.
Holy, godly, righteous living helps contribute to a powerful prayer life (James 5:16). As so often how we live matters.
Prayer is a powerful weapon in the spiritual battle & ongoing warfare against the world, the flesh & the devil (Ephesians 6:18).
Praying Scripture is also very powerful & effective. To pray Scripture I have to know & memorise it!!
Prayer brings God’s peace to calm anxious hearts & minds (Isaiah 26:3; Philippians 4:7).
Praying in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:4) strengthens & builds up the believer. My advice is pray in tongues every day – make it your habit.
The power of prayer should never, ever be underestimated.
It is a mighty blessing & amazing privilege that God allows & ever invites us to communicate directly with Him through prayer.
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere with no appointment necessary. What an amazing gift.
KEEP ON PRAYING!! You know it makes sense

For Reflection

  • Which spiritual disciplines &spiritual practices am I combining prayer with?
  • Do I ever pray in tongues?
  • Meditate upon the awesome power of prayer.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the awesome amazing privilege that is prayer,
That You welcome me into your presence anyplace, anytime, anywhere.
Jesus keep teaching me how to pray, with passion & with fervour,
To pray prayers that really make a difference.
Holy Spirit help me to forge discipline & dedication in my prayer life,
And to live in a godly way so that my prayers are not hindered.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
