Prayer Matters

Prayer is such a vital part of the Christian life as it is the chief source of our friendship & fellowship with God.
It also strengthens & prepares us for the ongoing battle against the world, the flesh & the devil (Ephesians 2:1-3).
We have thought about it’s priority, explored it’s pattern & postures as well as acknowledging that we must persevere in prayer.
We persevere in prayer because there is a purpose & goal to work & pray for – Jesus’ return & the kingdom to come in all it’s fullness.
Today I want to think about PARTNERING in prayer.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. Acts 1:14 NKJV

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:42 NKJV

Prayer is to be undertaken individually in private (Matthew 6:6) and also corporately with others (Romans 15:30; Acts 21:5).
So often in the New Testament we see the word TOGETHER used. This is true with prayer.
In partnership with the Holy Spirit and one another we come to prayer (Acts 1:14,2:4, 4:31, 12:5, 13:1-3, 16:1&25).
It is so clear to see that the early church spent a lot of time praying together.
They partnered corporately in prayer. Together in prayer with one another & the Holy Spirit.
In this way they encouraged & strengthened one another in prayer.

Where two or three gather Jesus is in their midst (Matthew 18:18-20).
The Lord’s presence is amongst us when we are together & there is also power in prayers of agreement.
We partner together in prayer & through godly agreement see God’s power released.
Seeking the Lord’s will & purpose & not just our own whims or desires!
The agreement we are talking about here starts firstly with God.
We need to agree with the Lord – aligning our hearts to His will, word and ways.
We then need to agree with one another – praying in unity and harmony with a clear purpose and goal.

Prayer is powerful & it makes a difference. A difference for the one praying & a difference for the one prayed for.
When we pray together in agreement it is like adding fuel to the fire. Strength is added.
The prayers gathering pace and power as we harness strength to one another (Ecclesiastes 4:9).
Together we can achieve more. The three stranded cord is so much stronger!!!
Individual prayer is vital but so is corporate prayer. They both have their special time & place.
Both are important means of partnering with the Spirit through prayer.
Keep partnering in prayer to storm heaven TOGETHER.

For Reflection

  • How easy do I find it to partner with the Holy Spirit & others in prayer?
  • In what ways & how often do I join with others to pray?
  • Meditate upon the need for PARTNERSHIP & togetherness in prayer.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You call us to pray,
That together we are to seek Your will, word & ways through prayer.
Jesus thank you for modeling unity & partnership in your relationship with the Father & Spirit,
Help me to partner fully with the Godhead in prayer.
Holy Spirit give me the desire keep partnering in prayer,
With You & my brethren in Christ.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
