Ministry matters. It matters to God & therefore it should matter to us.
We are saved for a purpose. To be ministers of the New Covenant & the Gospel (2 Corinthians 3:6).
Kingdom heralds & God’s agents for change & transformation upon this earth.
Ministry is a combination of being equipped & empowered by the Lord & taking personal responsibility ourselves.
The manner, method & means of how we ministry ‘in Jesus name’ matters.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; Ephesians 4:11-13
Every believer is to be equipped & empowered for the work of ministry. EVERY MEMBER IN MINISTRY.
Christ gave gifts (5 Fold / APEST) to the Church to be those equippers & enablers.
These are people who instruct, inspire, encourage, edify & enable others through the spiritual gifts entrusted to them.
They are not the ones who are to do all the work!!! That is to be done TOGETHER.
The body of Christ together carrying out the ministry & mission of Jesus.
The Church is Christ’s body (1 Corinthians 12:12-31) & is designed to work collectively through body ministry.
Ministry & mission is far easier when we work alongside others. We need one another.
That is why Jesus sent people out on mission & to minister in pairs (Luke 10:1). Two by two.
Strength as well as safety in numbers, alongside mutual encouragement & edification too.
We deviate from the plan & purpose of the Lord when we leave ministry or mission to the experts or specialists.
We all have a vital role & part to play through the call & commission God places upon our lives.
The body does not function properly or perfectly without me. SELAH!!
Therefore ministry & mission is incomplete & imperfect without me too!
Below are 4 simple principles that will help us minister with integrity & in the power of the Spirit.
A – Anointed by the anointed one & walk in His authority.
B – Blessed to be a blessing. Freely have received so freely give. Walk in His freedom & favour.
C – Clean & compliant vessels to complete the specific assignment. Walk in obedience & purity.
D – Delight in the presence & fulfil the purpose. Enjoy the pleasure but be sure to please the Father’s heart by fulfilling the purpose.
We will examine each principle in more depth over the coming days.
In the meantime, attend to your ministry – alongside others – with due diligence & attention!!
- In what ways am I fulfilling the ministry & mission God has called me to?
- Am I fully aware of the call & commission God has placed upon my life?
- Meditate upon how & why ministry matters.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you for the call & commission You have placed upon my life,
Give me continued grace & favour to serve You well.
Jesus thank you that You died to make us one,
Help me keep the unity of the Spirit as I work & minister alongside my brothers & sisters in the body.
Holy Spirit help me to minister with integrity & to be active in mission,
Making known the Gospel through words, works & wonders inspired by You.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
