The Beauty & Blessing of Place
Jesus has prepared a place for us in the Father’s house (John 14:1-3).
We are also invited to the secret place of prayer & intimacy (Matthew 6:6).
Ever invited to find sanctuary & safety in the Lord’s royal tabernacle (Psalm 27:5, 32:7).
A stronghold of protection & a sure foundation & foothold from the storms & tribulation of life.
We are welcomed & invited to dwell in the Lord’s own dwelling place!! Just incredible.
We as His people are at the same time being built up as a dwelling place for the Lord in the Spirit.
Today we will think about that DWELLING Place.
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners,
but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,
in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22
The Lord by His Spirit dwells in the heart of every believer & our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
Collectively, and together as His body, we are the dwelling place that is His temple through the Spirit.
There is therefore an individual & corporate element to the DWELLING Place.
The Lord dwells in us as individuals but He manifests His glory & grace more powerfully through the collective.
We is always greater than me & TOGETHER we worship & witness to represent & make known the Lord.
The New Testament is packed full of encouragements & admonishments to do things TOGETHER.
TOGETHER we are God’s house & dwelling place – A SPIRITUAL TEMPLE.
The place where worship, prayer, sacrifice (of praise & lives laid down) & priestly service are continually offered.
The priesthood of ALL believers. SELAH
Wonderfully ‘In Christ’ we are members of God’s household & family, citizens of heaven & saints.
What a rich heritage & immense privilege. We belong to the Lord & we belong to one another.
We are each living stones (1 Peter 2:5) being built into a spiritual temple for God.
Jesus is the chief cornerstone (capstone) that holds the whole temple building together.
The foundation is the teaching, ministry & mission of the apostles & prophets.
We are each bespoke living stones that fit into specially prepared places in the temple building.
We belong & we are bespoke. SELAH Bespokely shaped & moulded by God to fit our divine purpose.
It is the Lord who is doing the building & Christ that is holding all things together.
We follow on in the footsteps & example of those who have gone before us – we must stay faithful & true.
We need to allow the Lord to fit us in exactly where He needs us. His will & way rather than ours.
Note too that the temple building is rising & being strengthened – it is a continual process.
Together through the work of the Spirit amongst us we grow & mature in our faith. We need one another.
The original language is also referring to the innermost part of the temple building – the holy of holies.
The divine resting & dwelling place in the midst of His people. The presence of God & His Shekinah glory. Hallelujah!!
We are those who individually & corporately are being built up to dwell in the most holy, sacred & intimate place of the temple.
The presence of God is our birth right ‘In Christ’. How amazing & utterly awesome is that – just mind blowing.
- In what ways is the Lord asking for my priestly service & sacrifice?
- Do I truly feel I fully belong to God & my brethren in Christ?
- In what ways am I bespoke & how am I expressing that for the Lord?
- Meditate upon the Lord dwelling in our hearts & how we TOGETHER are a dwelling place & spiritual temple for the Lord.
2 songs reflecting this theme:
Thank you that You dwell in the midst of Your people,
That you are building us up as a holy temple & Your resting place.
Jesus thank that you are the Cornerstone that holds us all together in the purposes of God.
Holy Spirit keep me serving faithfully,
Laying down my life as a continual living sacrifice,
So that the glory & grace of God might be truly manifest in our midst.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
