Our Saviour and Lord

Psalm 20 is a song of trust looking unto God & crying out for Him to bring salvation.
Salvation for the individual & salvation for the nation.
Through this psalm we have seen how God is our defender, deliverer, protector, help & strength.
Today we will look at the ow the Lord is our strong support.
The ONLY rock & foundation upon which our lives are steadfast & secure.

May He send you help from the sanctuary,
And strengthen you out of Zion;
May He remember all your offerings,
And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah Psalm 20:2-3

David recognised that help, strength, support & sustenance come from the presence of the Lord.
That is the fount of benefit & blessing that flows from the Lord unto His people. Hallelujah!!!
David is calling upon the One who has endless strength & unlimited resources to defend, deliver & protect His people.
The Lord is ever the source of our continued sustenance & support.
He is the rock & foundation upon which we stand (Deuteronomy 32:4; 1 Samuel 2:2).

The word used for strength here has multiple root meanings. It is rich & powerful.
comfort, strengthen, hold me up, upholden, establish, refresh, support, sustain, & stay.
Wow what incredible help is available in & from the Lord. Help for the individual & help for cities & nations too.
It is all sourced in, & flows freely from, the presence of the Lord.
David & the nation put their trust in the One who was, & had, abundantly more than enough to save & deliver them.
We too, must keep doing the same. The key is to look unto & call upon the Lord in the day of trouble & distress.

Christ is our solid rock & firm foundation (Matthew 7:24-27).
The SURE strength, support, sustenance, comfort & refreshment we will need.
He is resilient to any, & every, storm we might face in this life.
Amidst the storms of life in His presence is peace & assurance – Peace, be still (Mark 4:39).
Even in our weaknesses we are strong in the Lord (2 Corinthians 12:9).
His bountiful grace is always sufficient & more than enough.
The Lord is so gracious, good, faithful, reliable & loving towards us. Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • In what ways have I experienced God’s sustenance, support, comfort & refreshment?
  • Share a testimony of how the Lord has sustained & supported you through a time of distress.
  • Meditate upon the support & sustenance we receive from the Lord.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that Your grace is ever sufficient & more than enough,
That in You is help, strength, sustenance, support, comfort & refreshment.
Jesus thank you that You are my solid rock & firm foundation,
That in You I stand steadfast & secure held fast by Your presence & peace.
Holy Spirit keep me looking unto the Lord even in my weaknesses & vulnerabilities,
For He is ever & only the true source & sure fount of all the strength & support I might ever need.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
