Our Saviour and Lord
Psalm 20 is a song of trust that cries out for & seeks the saving power of God.
David knows that God will defend & deliver him & the nation in the day of trouble.
God was David’s & He is our great protector. Seek & you will find!!
Today we will look at the help & strength that the Lord constantly makes available for us.
May He send you help from the sanctuary,
And strengthen you out of Zion;
May He remember all your offerings,
And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah Psalm 20:2-3
David on behalf of the nation is seeking the Lord’s favour in a time of national need.
David is aware that help will come from the sanctuary (lit – holy place/thing or holiness).
David is looking to mount Zion & the ‘holy place’ of the tabernacle / temple.
This is the dwelling place of God amongst His chosen people (Exodus 25-31).
Help & strength flows from the presence of the Lord.
Israel sought the favour of the Lord through offerings & sacrifices.
This was part of their preparation before entering a battle (1 Samuel 7:9-10, 13:9-12).
An act of devotion & means of submitting & consecrating themselves unto God.
They looked unto the Lord who was their help & strength.
They put their trust in the one who could save & deliver them.
Because of the offering & sacrifice of Christ we forever live in the favour of the Lord.
Jesus is our constant help & strength. He triumphed by defeating sin & death in our greatest time of need.
However, like David & Israel, we need to keep submitting & consecrating ourselves unto the Lord.
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord (Isaiah 40:28-31, Philippians 4:13, 2 Thessalonians 3:3).
Keep looking unto the One who is ever our help & strength. Hallelujah!!
- In what ways have I experienced God’s help & strength?
- Share a testimony of how the Lord has helped you & given you strength in a time of need or weakness.
- Meditate upon the Lord our helper & our strength.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you that You are my sure source of help & strength,
That you are my ever-present deliverer & rescuer.
Jesus thank you that You secured the victory of God through Your great offering & sacrifice,
That in You I live in favour & have open access to the presence of the Lord.
Holy Spirit keep me calling on the Name of the Lord,
Seeking & finding the presence of the Lord in the day of trouble.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
