The Power of Communion

Communion is powerful as it is a prophetic practice & proclamation!
Part of the power of Communion is in remembering.
Remembering all that Christ has done for us, is doing for us & will do for us.
Carrying that constant awareness of the past, present & future of the Communion meal & mystery.
Centring on the great sacrifice of Christ & all it means for us.
Prophetically proclaiming & living out what has been, what is & what will be. SELAH

For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you:
that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,
“Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying,
“This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Communion quite rightly focusses in upon all that Jesus did for us & what that means for our salvation.
We proclaim His death & resurrection through which He conquered sin & death & His 2nd coming as judge of all (Hebrews 9:27-29; Acts 17:31).
We remember who Christ is & all He achieved for us. We also remember who we are because of that great salvation.
The word for remembrance used is an interesting Greek word – anamnesis.
It carries the meaning of don’t forget who you are. We must not forget who we are ‘In Christ’.
Our identity is caught up in the saviour. Our identity is ‘In Christ’.
During Communion we honour Christ’s great sacrifice & death, celebrate His resurrection & victory & also remember who we are in Him. SELAH

‘In Christ ‘ we are sinners made saints, sons, servants, soldiers & slaves of the Most High God.
How wondrous is that!! We are joint heirs with Christ, overcomers & more than conquerors.
We are beloved as He is beloved. Adopted into His family, ambassadors & ministers of reconciliation.
Kings & priests unto our God. A holy nation & a special people. The list could go on & on!!!
O wow, what a wondrous exchange takes place because of the Savour’s great sacrifice.
Our identity secured through the great intercession of Christ upon Calvary. Hallelujah!!

The power of Communion is that we are invited to remember & celebrate who Jesus is & who we are because of Him.
A meal providing time & space to Commune with Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
A prophetic act & a prophetic proclamation. So, so powerful. Keep doing it.
Remember who He is & remember too who you are because of Christ. Never forget either.
O what a mighty saviour!!!

For Reflection

  • Find some scriptures that relate to who we are ‘In Christ’ & meditate upon those great truths. That is who you TRULY are.
  • How secure am I in my identity ‘In Christ’?
  • Meditate upon what Jesus has done for us & what that means for us.

A song related to this:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that you were in Christ reconciling me to Yourself,
Demonstrating Your great love, grace & mercy through the death & resurrection of Your beloved Son.
Jesus thank you that You shed Your precious blood to save me,
That my identity as a child of God is bound up in You.
Holy Spirit keep me remembering fully all Jesus did, does& will do for me,
Never let me forget all that that great sacrifice means for me,
Hold me firm & secure in my identity ‘In Christ’,
Keep me remembering & celebrating the power of Communion.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
