Living in the Favour of God

The favour of God is a wonderful blessing for believers.
It belongs to & is bestowed upon everyone who believes in Christ as their Lord & Saviour (John 1:16).
As a result of Jesus’s sacrifice & triumph upon the cross we live in an era of constant Jubilee – freedom, blessing & favour.
Favour is also something we can grow & increase in as we walk in obedience to the Lord (Luke 2:51-52).
To live in, & under, God’s favour is truly a blessing, but it does not exempt believers from the trials, troubles & tribulations of this life.
Thinking more around that is our topic for today.

And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favoured one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. Luke 1:28-30

Mary was highly favoured by the Lord & mightily blessed by God. She was to be the mother of Jesus the Saviour, the Son of God.
Mary had the Lord’s approval & special affection, yet remarkably, that favour from on high did not bring popularity on the earth!!!
Mary was looked down upon & ostracised (even by family) for being with child prior to her full marriage. Joseph almost left her too.
This demonstrates that God’s favour does not guarantee that everything in life will go smoothly or easily for us.
Favour from God is a sure sign & mark of His grace upon us, but it does not safeguard us from hardship, suffering or even persecution.
However, within the favour there is always more than enough grace & strength to navigate through whatever we may encounter in this life.

Think also of people like Noah, Joseph, David & Daniel who were all favoured by the Lord.
Noah was mocked & taunted. Joseph was betrayed by his brothers & falsely imprisoned for 13 years.
David knew many hardships & difficulties throughout his life & Daniel was thrust into the lion’s den.
All of them are commended for how they reacted in these situations.
They kept looking unto the Lord – the source of their favour & blessing.
Amidst any hardship, toil, trouble, or strife we are blessed when we suffer for believing in God or for doing good (1 Peter 2:19).

Just like Mary ‘In Christ’ we have the Lord’s approval & special affection.
God’s favour will make a way to outweigh any obstacle or opposition enabling us to us to overcome whatever we may encounter in life.
That is because there is divine provision& providence within the favour bestowed upon us. His favour is for life (Psalm 30:5).
‘In Christ’ we are greatly blessed, highly favoured & deeply loved by the Father. Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • How deeply do I feel the blessing, favour & love of God in my life right now?
  • In what ways have I suffered for my faith in God or for doing good?
  • Meditate upon the approval & special affection that accompanies the favour of God.

A song reflecting this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that Your approval & special affection is mine ‘In Christ’,
That Your great love & grace ever make a way for me.
Jesus thank you that You are the one full of grace & truth,
And that You bestow that favour upon me.
Holy Spirit, whatever I am going through, help me to keep looking unto the Lord,
Faithfully persevering until I overcome in & through Christ.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
