Living in the Favour of God

Scripture is full of people who walked in the favour of God.
Noah, Joseph, Moses, David & Daniel are clear & obvious examples.
God’s favour rested on individuals & it also rested on the nation (Psalm 80:1-3; 106:4).
Another expression of that is the Aaronic priestly blessing for the people & nation (Numbers 6:24-26).
The favour of God rests upon believers because of the saving work of Christ.
Through the Saviour Jesus we live in the favourable year of the Lord – constant Jubilee (Luke 4:18-19).
Hallelujah – what a blessed way to live..

And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom;
and the grace of God was upon Him.
Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them,
but His mother kept all these things in her heart.
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men. Luke 2:40 & 51-2

God’s favour flows forth from His great grace. Grace itself is undeserved favour.
Favour is gracious kindness & demonstrated delight. It makes itself known in & through people’s lives.
The favour of God leaves its distinctive mark over people, places & even nations.
Jesus was someone who not just walked in but increased in his favour with God & men.

Jesus increased in favour because he walked in obedience.
He submitted Himself fully to the will of God but was also subject to His earthly parent’s instruction & discipline.
A man fully surrendered unto the Lord & always filled with the Spirit.
Jesus learned full & total obedience (Hebrews 5:7-9), even to death upon the cross.
That is why He increased & multiplied in God’s favour. Obedience was the key.
Where Israel as a nation repeatedly floundered & failed, Jesus excelled in obedience.
That is why the favour upon Christ never diminished or dulled. Rather it increased & shone ever brighter.

Jesus’ obedience led to Calvary & from the cross that favour flows to all who will believe in His saving work.
The great promises of God were fulfilled & we now live in the acceptable (favourable) year of the Lord.
That is the year of Jubilee – the cancelling of debts, freedom for slaves & the restoration of inheritances.
In & through Christ we have the favour of forgiven sins, total freedom & an awesome inheritance in God. So, so good.
God’s grace & favour stream forth from the Saviour’s sacrifice to all who will believe on & receive Christ.
Find favour through the highly favoured Son & Saviour.
The favour of God is all over you because of Christ. Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • How distinctive is the favour of God upon my life?
  • In what ways am I struggling or grappling with obedience unto the Lord?
  • Meditate upon the favour of God.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for Your great love & grace love toward me,
Demonstrated & made available through Christ Your Son & my Saviour.
Jesus thank you that were fully surrendered & submitted unto the Lord,
That you walked in total obedience so that favour increased & multiplied over & upon You.
Holy Spirit help me to fully lay hold of the grace & favour available ‘In Christ’,
Teach & train me to walk in obedience to the Lord’s will, word & ways.
This I ask In Jesus mighty Name.
