Heavenly Hymns

The Apostle John through a powerful vision gets to see into & experience heaven’s worship.
He recounts constant movement & frequent repetition with it all centred on the Lord & the Lamb.
They are forever celebrated as worthy & exalted above all else as the eternal plan of salvation unfolds.
What they have done, are doing & will do is constantly remembered through ceaseless praise.
John records 5 heavenly hymns within Revelation chapters 4 & 5. We have already investigated the first
In the fourth hymn Jesus, the Lamb of God & Lion of Judah, is again the centre of attention.

Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honour and glory and blessing!” Revelation 5:11-12

Here the 4 living creatures & the 24 elders are joined by a countless multitude of angels.
The heavenly choir has expanded again. Myriads of angels adding their adoring thunderous voices to the song.
Jesus the slain Lamb of God is the object of their unending praise.
They are offering infinite honour & power to the One at the centre of the worship.
Jesus’s death & resurrection is at the centre of & crucial to the Lord’s eternal plan of salvation.
The heavenly choir sings in awe of who Jesus is & what he has accomplished.
They are magnifying & exalting the same qualities that elsewhere are attributed to the Lord God Almighty (Revelation 4:11, 7:12).
The Lord & the Lion & Lamb are one & the same. SELAH

In a melody of ceaseless praise, with endless harmonies they sing unto the slain Lamb.
Their sevenfold (perfect / complete) chorus sounding out like a mighty peeling bell.
Power, riches, wisdom, strength, honour, glory & blessing belong to Christ the saviour.
These are intrinsic qualities that belong to heaven’s champion & He who is the victory of God.
Jesus through his death & resurrection has won the eternal victory & it must be forever celebrated.

The worship starts in & around the throne & extends outwards through ever increasing circles.
All of the heavenly host are getting in on the act to celebrate Jesus the Lion of Judah & slain Lamb of God.
There are holding nothing back (giving everything) in perfect perpetual praise.
Giving everything unto the One who gave His everything to secure our salvation & the eternal victory of God. SELAH
Let those melodies & harmonies keep flowing, growing & multiplying to include more & more people. Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I giving my all in worship unto the Lord?
  • What am I doing keep Jesus at the centre of it all?
  • Meditate upon the magnitude & motivation of heaven’s worship.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that are forever worthy of my praise & worship,
Thank you for sending Jesus my great champion, King & Saviour.
Jesus, Lion of Judah & Lamb of God, thank you for your great victory,
That You held nothing back in securing my salvation & the eternal victory of God.
Holy Spirit help & strengthen me to keep giving my all in worship,
Keep me endlessly celebrating the victory of God in Christ.
In Jesus mighty Name.
