The Mystery and Marvel of Christian Maturity
God has committed Himself to developing each & every Christian into maturity.
The Apostle Paul highlights this as he writes to Ephesian church.
The power of the Spirit, prevailing faith in Christ & persevering prayer partner together in this mysterious yet marvellous process.
We will once again look into the focus of Paul’s powerful prayer today.
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:14-19
Paul prays passionately for Christ to be formed in each believer & we can see 5 F’s at play:
The Father, The Family, Favour, Faith & the Fullness of God.
Through intimate intercession Paul is praying for all this to be worked out.
What an amazing process & an unbelievable privilege we have been invited into.
Paul bows before the Father. The word used for before here implies a depth of intimacy.
He comes to the perfect Father through Christ in the power of the Spirit with passionate heartfelt prayer.
Paul acknowledges that the Father is the One through whom the whole family of believers (in heaven & on earth) is named.
Our sanctification & glorification is not taking place in isolation. It is being worked out as a part of God’s family – together.
Paul cries out for the favour & riches of God’s glory to flood the lives of every believer with supernatural strength.
He then prays that believers would continue to exercise their faith so that Christ’s love & life would be their root & foundation.
The immeasurable, limitless love of Christ can then be known & experienced in increasing measure.
As we increasingly lay hold of Christ & His love we are filled with the fullness of God.
It is just amazing what God has planned & purposed for each one of us, & for the whole family too. SELAH
Our continuing prayer & intercession for one another, & all God’s family, should align with Paul’s great prayer here.
We should be earnestly seeking the love of Christ in increasing measure & the fullness of God for each & every believer.
We are to be committed to the growth, development & maturing of all the family.
What a wondrous thing it will be when that family is fully revealed in all its glory.
It will be life for the dead & the healing & restoration of this earth (Romans 8:18-25). Hallelujah!!!
- How mindful am I of the growth & maturation of others in God’s family?
- When & how am I praying & interceding for my brothers & sisters in Christ?
- Meditate upon the place of prayer in our sanctification & glorification.
A song related to this theme:
Thank you that You are the perfect Father of a worldwide family,
That You call & redeem people from every tribe, tongue, people & nation to Yourself.
Jesus thank you that You are the root & foundation of that family,
That the power & strength of Your great love knows no limit & keeps on filling Your people.
Holy Spirit keep me connected to Christ & my brothers & sisters in God’s eternal family,
Give me a passion & a purpose to keep lifting them before the Father in prayer & intercession.
In Jesus mighty Name.
