Ministering the Gospel

The Apostle Paul worked hard as a priest & was a diligent & faithful preacher of the Gospel.
His testimony being that he had fully preached the Gospel.
Over an expansive area, through ministry in the power of the Spirit, Paul had proclaimed Christ & planted churches.
God’s grace & Paul’s grittiness working together in fruitful partnership.

Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on some points, as reminding you, because of the grace given to me by God, that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God. For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient— in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. Romans 15:15-19

Paul fully preached the Gospel in the power of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:4).
His focus being on the death & resurrection of Christ & the new life available through the Saviour.
Mighty signs & wonders accompanied the preaching of the Gospel.
Words, works & wonders validating the message & the messenger.
The Holy Spirit will always be evident with accompanying signs when the Gospel is faithfully & fully preached.
These are a hallmark of King Jesus & His kingdom coming through the power of the Spirit. SELAH

Paul’s ministry was delivered through word & deed. The Spirit then supplied the wonders.
Paul said & did things that pointed to Jesus so that people could hear & see.
The words & deeds were a means of communicating in a culturally relevant way.
The signs & wonders the visible evidence of an unseen reality – heaven impacting the earth as the Kingdom broke in.
Paul brought the wholistic gospel of words, works & wonders.

Paul didn’t get caught up or carried away with the signs but kept focussing on the speaking & doing.
Faithful, reliable, consistent service as God’s priest & preacher in city after city.
Paul was fully convinced of, & confident about, the power of the Gospel of Christ.
Through diligent human duty accompanied by divine displays & demonstrations he left a powerful legacy that continues to this day.
We too are called to make known the gospel through word & deed in the power of the Spirit.
May we too fully preach the Gospel in our day.

For Reflection

  • What are the words to proclaim & deeds to display that God is leading me in right now?
  • How is my life & ministry pointing people to Jesus?
  • Meditate upon the words, works & wonders that accompany faithful Gospel preaching.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that you have called me as a priest & preacher of the gospel,
That You have appointed & anointed me to walk in powerful Spirit filled words & deeds.
Jesus fill me daily with Your grace, strength & power,
So that I might faithfully proclaim Your great Name.
Holy Spirit keep me focussed on Christ & His Gospel,
So that my life & ministry might point & lead people unto Him.
This I ask in Jesus mighty Name.
