Ministering the Gospel

The Apostle Paul had a very effective & most fruitful ministry. We benefit form it to this day.
He saw many Gentiles & Jews converted to Christianity & worked hard to mature them in Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2).
They were his priestly offering unto the Lord (Colossians 1:28). A consecrated sanctified people.
There was much to rejoice over & celebrate. Paul though would only glory in the Lord.

Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on some points, as reminding you, because of the grace given to me by God, that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God. For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient— in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. Romans 15:15-19

Paul was adamant that he would not boast about his own achievements but only glory (celebrate & praise) in the Lord.
He knew that he was the human instrument being used by the Lord in the power of the Spirit.
His gifts, talents & abilities were all a grace gift from the Lord. Everything he did & achieved was in & through the Lord.
Paul would glory in what Christ achieved through him, but he would not glory or boast in his own accomplishments.
This kept Paul safe & secure from the deadly danger that pride can be.

Pride is one of the deadliest temptations & sins. It was at the root of Satan’s fall (Isaiah 14:12-14).
Satan has been trying to seduce & deceive humanity with pride ever since his fall from grace!!
Pride is especially dangerous when we are enjoying sustained success & in abundantly fruitful seasons.
It was pride in their accomplishments that led many of the good Kings of Israel & Judah astray in their later years. SELAH
All glory must go unto the one who alone is worthy – The Lord of all (Romans 11:36).
Always remember & be mindful that The Lord is a jealous God & he will not share His glory with another (Exodus 34:14; Isaiah 42:8).

Paul was content to glory in the Lord & constantly guarded his heart to prevent it from bosting.
God always pours out more & more of His grace on those who maintain pure & humble hearts (James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5).
Our full obedience to the Lord will lead to the obedience of others too. SELAH.
May we like Paul know that we are graced to serve & serve humbly in our priestly & preaching ministries.
That is the way to effective & fruitful ministry in the power of the Spirit.
Keep giving the glory unto the Lord. Glory to God. Hallelujah!!

For Reflection

  • What are the ways I am being used as a human instrument in the power of the Spirit?
  • In what ways am I tempted to pride & boasting in my own achievements or accomplishments?
  • Meditate upon the right & proper ways to glory in the Lord.

2 Songs related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are the great & glorious ‘I Am’,
I give You all the glory for all You have done & are doing for me.
Jesus it is Your gospel that is the hope for my nation & this world,
Use me in & through the power of Your Spirit to keep making that gospel known.
Holy Spirit keep me humble in my priestly & gospel service,
Keep me looking unto & lifting high the Lord to guard my heart from pride.
This I ask in Jesus mighty Name.
