20th September 2023

God is impressively & gloriously clothed (Psalm 93:11, Psalm 104:1) & He clothes His children splendidly too.
Our ultimate clothing & covering is Christ himself. As believers through our salvation we put on Christ (Galatians 3:26-27).
‘In Christ’ the Lord clothes us with salvation & a robe of righteousness.
That is the item of spiritual clothing we will look ay today.

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10

Through Christ the saviour, God clothes & covers us with the garments of salvation & the robe of righteousness.
He does this through His great grace & mercy as none of us is righteous in, or of, ourselves.
In clothing terms our own righteousness is like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6)!!
We wear clothes that are tainted, tattered & torn through our repeated sin &, rejection & rebellion
against the Lord.
Our filthy rags are exchanged ‘In Christ’ for beautiful, ornate & precious clothes.
Beauty in place of brokenness, light in place of darkness, righteousness in place of sinfulness & life in place of death.
O what a great & all-encompassing salvation. Hallelujah!!!

We have great cause to rejoice & celebrate. The clothes (garments & a robe) are precious & priceless.
Purchased through the eternal sacrifice of the shed blood of Christ. O what a mighty Saviour.
Washed & cleansed through His precious blood we are radiantly adorned in glorious wedding attire.
God clothes His Saints & Priestly people in grand manner (2 Chronicles 6:41).
Note the references to impressive ornaments (priestly sashes/turbans) & sparkling jewels!!!
Clothed in the way we are to serve & fitted for the Lord’s purpose. So good.

We are elaborately adorned & beautifully attired as the Bride of Christ.
Dearly beloved & deeply cared for. Watched over constantly & daily provided for.
We have so much to be thankful for & rejoice about.
We are clothed & robed in righteousness (positioned) & now we are to walk in righteousness (practical godly living).
We do this by aligning our lives to God’s will, word & ways. The indwelling Spirit leads, guides & strengthens us daily in this task.
Guided by Scripture & empowered by the Spirit we are to wear the garments of salvation in a way that honours & glorifies the Lord.

For Reflection

  • How am I applying Scripture & where is the Holy Spirit leading & guiding me right now?
  • In what ways am I living in a way that glorifies the Lord?
  • Meditate upon the garments of salvation we receive ’In Christ’.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You clothe & cover me with Christ,
That in Your goodness, grace & mercy you clothe me with garments of salvation.
Jesus thank you for Your great sacrifice upon the cross,
That through Your precious blood I am washed, cleansed & granted a robe of righteousness,
Wonderfully clothed & covered by You, Your righteousness & Your anointing.
Holy Spirit help me live right for the Lord, attentive to Your voice & obedient unto the Scriptures,
That I may daily bring honour & glory unto the great & glorious Name of the Lord.
This I ask in Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
