Spiritual Clothing

We have been exploring how the Lord adorns & clothes His beloved children in splendid attire.
We are clothed with Christ (Galatians 3:26-27) who gifts unto us the garments of salvation & robe of righteousness (Isaiah 61:10).
As believers we are born again (1 Peter 1:23) & become new creations ‘In Christ’ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
We discard (cast aside) the old & put on (clothe ourselves) the new. A transformation takes place.
We are now clothed as a part of the New Humanity in Christ. This will be our focus for today.

But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. Colossians 3:8-11

In & though the Saviour Jesus, alongside the power of the Spirit’s sanctification, believers are being renewed in the image of God.
God has initiated this transformation by sending Christ as saviour & residing in believers through the indwelling Spirit.
All a work of the Father’s great love, grace & mercy. God has done everything necessary for life & godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
Believers have a part & responsibility to play too. They are to put off (turn aside from) their former way of life.

We have the daily responsibility to put on the new man (Ephesians 4:20-24).
We cast aside the sin stained, tainted, rubbed out image of God & put on the new self created after the likeness of God.
The old has gone & the new has come. We must leave behind the past & embrace the way of Christ.
We are to live in the light & truth of who we now are in Christ. Sons & daughters of the One True Living God.
Walking in the love, light & life of God. Putting off the old & putting on the new.

This is what it is to be clothed in & walk as the New Humanity ‘In Christ’.
We lay aside our old way of life by changing our attitudes & actions (renewing our minds).
We must keep engaging with Scripture & the indwelling Spirit to lead & guide this renewing process &
transformation.
The more we align our thoughts & deeds with God’s word, will & ways the more we will reflect Christ into this world.
This is how we shine for the Lord in the midst of a perverse & corrupt generation (2 Corinthians 4: 4 & 6; Philippians 2:15).
God has fully played His part to enable this & we must be faithful & fully committed to our part too.
God’s sovereignty working together with man’s responsibility. A powerful partnership.

For Reflection

  • How am I engaging with Scripture & the Holy Spirit right now?
  • In what ways have I changed my attitudes & actions to become more like Jesus?
  • Meditate upon being a new creation & part of the New Humanity ‘In Christ’.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You adorn me with Christ & the garments of salvation,
That in Your goodness, grace & mercy You have made me a New Creation.
Jesus thank you for the redemption I have in You,
That you are renewing me in Your image as part of the New Humanity in You.
Holy Spirit give me grace & strength to stay fully attentive to You & the word of God,
Keep renewing my mind & transforming my attitude & actions to be more & more like Jesus.
This I ask in Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
