Spiritual Clothing

We have been exploring how the Lord covers & clothes His people.
Through the Lord’s great grace we are clothed with Christ (Galatians 3:26-27), & the garments of salvation (Isaiah 61:10).
As believers we are to daily put on the clothing of the New Humanity in Christ (Colossians 3:8-11).
As a new people ‘In Christ’ we battle against the world, the flesh & the devil (Ephesians 2:1-3).
Once again the Lord in His abundant grace & mercy has wonderfully provided spiritual armour for us.
This will be our focus for today.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13

Our Heavenly Father has provided armour for us to stand firm in & fight the battle.
It covers us from head to toe – completely, thoroughly & effectively.
Note again that God has provided but we are the ones who need to put the armour on!!.
The interplay of God’s sovereignty & man’s responsibility once again.
Let us be diligent in daily taking it up. SELAH.

Through the armour we are equipped & empowered to take our stand in the battle.
Standing strong & standing firm in the strength & power of the Lord.
There are both offensive & defensive items in our armour (Ephesians 6:14-20). It is more than enough.
We stand in God’s armour (Isaiah 59:17). The same armour that that Lord wears.
He wore it to bring about our great salvation ‘In Christ’. SELAH
How wonderful is that. Hallelujah!!

Paul also references the Lord’s armour (2 Corinthians 6:7) in relation to how he conducts himself in his Christian life & ministry.
How we live, alongside our prayer life, plays a part in the ongoing battle against the dark & demonic spiritual forces.
We have been provided with every item of armour we could need. We need to put it on & use it wisely & well.
Assisted & strengthened by the Spirit our responsibility is to keep it in good working order – well oiled & polished.
Onward Christian soldiers, keep standing firm & fighting the good fight (1 Timothy 6:12).
Praise the Lord that we are overcomers & more than conquerors ‘In Christ’ (Romans 8:37). Hallelujah!!!

For Reflection

  • How am I finding strength from the Lord in the battle that is life?
  • In what shape & order is my spiritual armour? Is it polished & well oiled?
  • Meditate upon the battle that we are in & the spiritual armour we have been provided with.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You clothe me thoroughly & powerfully for every situation in life,
Thank you for my spiritual armour & the strength that comes from You in the battle.
Jesus thank you that You are my victory in the battle,
That I am more than a conqueror in, & through, You.
Holy Spirit keep me looking to, learning from & leaning upon the Lord,
Alert, aware & attentive to stand against & overcome the schemes & wiles of the enemy.
This I ask in Jesus mighty Name.
