The Lord clothes His people with Christ (Galatians 3:26-27), His salvation (Isaiah 61:10) & His armour (Ephesians 6:10-13).
Clothed with power from on high (Luke 24:49) believers are equipped & empowered to be witnesses of God’s great love & saving grace.
As we clothe ourselves as the new humanity in Christ (Colossians 3:8-11) we receive other spiritual garments too.
One of these is the garment of praise. This will be our focus for today.
To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3
Through this prophecy of Isaiah God offers comfort to His people through His anointed messenger who is both king & servant.
This messenger is bringing about the promises of the jubilee (Leviticus 25:8-22). FREEDOM in all its forms.
The ultimate fulfilment of these verses are in & through the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is these verses Jesus says are fulfilled as He ministers in Nazareth (Luke 4:16-20).
They are His Kingdom manifesto as Jesus is the one who brings an eternal jubilee. Hallelujah!!!
No wonder there is joy instead of sorrow, hope in place of despair & beauty in place of brokenness.
Jesus the Beautiful One offers a wonderful exchange at the cross.
He takes the weight, heaviness, darkness & gloom of sin & oppression upon Himself.
In exchange Jesus gifts us & gives unto us a beautiful garment (mantle) of praise.
Accompanying this is a beautiful festive headdress (turban or garland) signifying the sheer joy & bliss of
knowing Him & His salvation.
Jesus gives life unto & lifts our spirit out of its imprisoned state. Hallelujah!!!
What can we do but praise & celebrate such a mighty work of love & grace.
Jesus offers these garments & we must gladly receive them & put them on.
Jesus’ people are to walk in His joy & readily sing His praises.
We are given beauty in place of our brokenness & eternal hope instead of despair.
These are splendid, beautiful, transformative garments as they bring life, healing & wholeness to those that receive them. SELAH
O what a wonderful salvation & o what a mighty Saviour. Put on your garment of praise & celebrate with joy.
- How easy do I find it to praise & worship Jesus?
- In what ways have I encountered & experienced freedom ‘In Christ’?
- Meditate upon the garments of praise & how easily they fit you. SELAH
A song related to this theme:
Thank you that You are a constant source of comfort for Your people,
That through Your Son, the Saviour, You bring healing & wholeness unto me.
Jesus thank you that You are the anointed king & servant of the Lord,
That You bring eternal jubilee to me & that in You I am truly free.
Holy Spirit give me strength & freedom to confidently wear the garments of praise,
Celebrating, singing about & forever proclaiming the Saviour’s love & grace.
This I ask in Jesus mighty Name.
