God’s Presence

God’s great desire is to share His presence with His people.
He was Israel’s dwelling place for generations. That was the testimony of Moses.
It is interesting to note that there is a shift from place to person with the coming of Christ.
Christ was the dwelling place of God & He becomes the dwelling place of God for Christians. SELAH
This will be the focus of our considerations today.

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. Psalm 90:1-2 NKJV

Israel were aware of the constant presence of God in their midst.
He had promised to be with them to lead & guide them (Exodus 33:13-15).
The eternal & everlasting God was their constant comfort & strength.
God’s presence in their midst was in the tabernacle & concentrated on the mercy seat.
The mercy seat being the place were God’s love, grace & mercy are made available to cleanse the people from their sin.
The place of atonement, forgiveness & cleansing. SELAH

As we saw yesterday with the coming of Christ the focus of God’s presence changed from a place to a person.
Jesus’ body was the temple (where God’s presence dwelt) & He was our mercy seat (Romans 3:25).
In Christ, & Christ alone, the love, grace & mercy of God are poured out.
Jesus, through His sacrificial death, provides atonement, forgiveness of sin & cleansing.
He made a way & leads us back into the presence of God. Hallelujah!!!
Through His resurrection He grants unto us newness of life – eternal life ‘In Christ’.

The Aaronic Levitical priesthood could only make atonement for the people once a year & they had to keep repeating it annually!!
Jesus has offered up a once & for all sacrifice that provides ongoing atonement – eternal & everlasting.
This is the main point & argument of the writer to the Hebrews in CHAPTER 9.
Jesus provides a far better way through a greater & more prefect tabernacle with no limitations. SELAH
Jesus has made a way for us to have free & full access to the presence of God (Hebrews 4:14-16, 10:19-23). Hallelujah!!
We can come unto the Lord, into His presence, anytime & anyplace, with blessed assurance, strong conviction & bold confidence.
The presence of God is both our birthright as children of God & our inheritance as joint heirs with Christ. Hallelujah!!

For Reflection

  • Am I confident & bold to freely enter God’s presence?
  • In what ways am I encountering & experiencing the presence of God?
  • Meditate upon the God’s presence shifting from place to person in Christ.

A song related to this theme:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You were in Christ, reconciling this world unto Yourself,
And that You gave Your all for my salvation.
Jesus, thank you that You are my mercy seat,
That in You is atonement, forgiveness, cleansing & eternal life,
Holy Spirit stir & strengthen my faith, hope & love,
That I may boldly & confidently keep entering the presence of God ‘In Christ’..
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
