God’s Presence

God tabernacled with His people in the wilderness & then later in the Jerusalem temple.
His presence was manifest in their midst & concentrated upon the mercy seat.
He tabernacles with us today through His Son & our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
This was a part of what the incarnation – God with us – was all about (Matthew 1:23).
Today we will consider the presence of God in the body of Jesus.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 NKJV

Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” John 2:19 NKJV

John’s gospel tells us that God pitched his tent & tabernacled amongst mankind through His Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
God moved into the neighbourhood of humanity when He made Himself human – flesh, blood & bone.
The glory of God being revealed through the Lord Jesus Christ. The presence of God was made known through Jesus.
Christ went around doing good to all, healing the sick & releasing those held captive & bound by Satan (Acts 10:38).
Jesus was saying & doing the things that only God could do!! Marvellous teaching & miraculous works.
The presence of God demonstrated in a man carrying out the words, works & wonders of God. SELAH

Jesus even referred to His own body as being the temple of the Lord.
The people thought he was talking about the Jerusalem temple but he meant his own physical body.
When the Jewish religious leaders destroyed Jesus (putting Jesus to death) He would be resurrected & rise up three days later.
What took place on resurrection day that first Easter vindicated the Lord Jesus Christ.
The presence of God was truly in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:19). God visiting & dwelling amongst His people (Luke 19:44). SELAH
Sadly, many at the time missed out but we don’t have to. Those who call on Christ will be saved (Romans 10:13). Hallelujah!!!

God dwelt amongst mankind through the incarnation & now following the Ascension God can dwell within humans!!!
God came to earth through His Son, Jesus Christ. He came to save us from sin, death & Satan.
God continues to come to us in & through the Lord Jesus Christ. He makes His home with us through Christ & the Spirit (John 14:23).
Jesus has made a way for us to have free & full access to the presence of God (Hebrews 10:19-23). Hallelujah!!
There is now nothing to separate us from the love of God which is ours in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:31-39).
Just like God dwelt in the body of Jesus so now He dwells in you through His Spirit (Romans 8:9). SELAH
What a glorious gift & a wonderful privilege. The presence of God in you & me ‘In Christ’. Hallelujah!!

For Reflection

  • Am I conscious that nothing is hindering my friendship & fellowship with God?
  • In what ways am I reflecting & radiating the glory of God through His presence in me?
  • Meditate upon God’s presence in you through Christ & the Spirit.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You came to save us in Christ,
And that nothing shall now separate us from Your love & presence.
Jesus, thank you that You tabernacled amongst mankind,
And made a way so that You could live in us & amongst us forever.
Holy Spirit teach & train me to more & more reflect & radiate the glory of God,
And help me to foster my relationship with You & the Father & the Son.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Amen
