Revelation in the Holy Spirit

Amazingly, God let’s His children (those ‘In Christ’) in on His thoughts, plans & purposes.
This takes place through revelation (the unlocking & opening of divine wisdom & truth) from the Holy Spirit.
It is the Spirit of God who provides a full a detailed report into the gifts of life & salvation.
The Christian life is to be lived from this revelation rather than our own human knowledge & understanding about God.
The Spirit gives life (Job 33:4; John 6:63; 2 Corinthians 3:6) & brings energy & inspiration to the believer. SELAH
Using our chosen passage for the week we will again today think upon the revelation that the Holy Spirit brings.

But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 1 Corinthians 2:9-12 NKJV

The Apostle Paul is quoting form the great prophet Isaiah. The promises of God revealed through His prophets.
Paul is showing that this part of Isaiah’s prophecy has been fulfilled through the ministry of the Son & the Spirit.
As we read it in our modern Bibles Paul is quoting Isaiah 64:4 & also elements from Isaiah 65.
The Holy Spirit is the great revealer, the unlocker & discloser, of the wisdom, secrets & mysteries of the Lord.
The Holy Spirit helps us to know & understand both God & the Scriptures. To know God intimately & to know the Bible with illumination.
He is the One who has access to the heart & thoughts of divine counsel & He is also the inspiration behind all scripture.
The Holy Spirit is therefore perfectly poised & positioned for this function of being the great revealer. SELAH

We see the Holy Spirit as the great revealer of divine truths & mysteries throughout the scriptures.
This is powerfully evident in the lives of both Joseph & Daniel. Though exiled in differing ways they remained in communion with the Lord.
God’s supernatural wisdom along with the unfolding of His divine plans was revealed to both; interestingly through dreams.
There remain those secret things that belong only to the Lord but those that are revealed are for humanity (Deuteronomy 29:29).
God also doesn’t do anything without revealing it to His servants (Amos 3:7). God puts his people in the picture (know). SELAH
Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit God repeatedly reveals His plans & purposes to His people.

The scripture in Isaiah is explaining that there is no God in all the earth like the Lord.
He works on behalf of those who wait (with longing & desire) upon Him by loving & serving Him.
The Apostle Paul is showing that this great God has been revealed through Jesus Christ, God’s Son & humanities’ Saviour.
The Holy Spirit reveals this great truth & divine mystery to those who inherit salvation. Those ‘In Christ’. Hallelujah!!
Isaiah is making the point that no human could ever truly perceive God’s true greatness & glory.
The wonder, & the great mystery, is that this becomes a reality for Christians through the ministry of the Son & the Spirit.
What a wondrous revelation & what an amazing privilege those ‘In Christ’ have been gifted. SELAH

For Reflection

  • In what ways am I waiting (with longing & desire) upon the Lord?
  • How is the Holy Spirit revealing to me about the Lord & about the scriptures?
  • Meditate upon how the Holy Spirit reveals the plan & purposes of the Lord unto the child of God.

A song related to this theme:

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You share Your divine truth & purposes with me,
Through Your Spirit who is the great revealer & releaser of revelation.
Jesus, through You alone I encounter & experience the One True God,
Thank you for Your saving work to redeem & reconcile me to God.
Holy Spirit sharpen & strengthen my spiritual senses,
That I may be sensitive to swiftly respond to the revelation you grace me with.
This I ask in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Amen
